Our channel 2...here in HOUSTON...is now running a commercial about Edouard. IT says something like "no scare tactics..." and shows their mets talking about Edouard.

They ran it last night...then they had a 5 sec. news break on Fay...saying something like..."Fay forecasted to turn west...should we worry?"

Gotta love the media.

If this "eyewall" makes it to the Atlantic, that could help with intensification right?

I will risk a crow pie, but I will guarantee this does not last until water.

Looking at NWS Miami Base radar image....Looks like a nice "CDO" like structure developing around the "eye":

http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid= ... 11&loop=no

I see no signs of Fay weakening just yet --- should start seeing them over the next few hours though (I think)

How much is this like Irene in 1999? Will Fay Stall out at or just offshore the east coast of Florida?

Pressure has dropped (over land) two millibars since the preceding advisory...

Note the transition from 988 (8 a.m. EDT) to 986 mb (11 a.m. EDT).

Like I was saying yesterday, the prime SST's will slowly trump conditions and intensify Fay. Only this turned out to be one of those environments where pressure doesn't translate to winds quickly. The continued drop is probably residual energy from those SST's along with venting, as you can see Fay's upper extends all the way up the trough.

Wow, I have not seen this much rain since Irene. Over the past few hours we have had a few gusts 40+ mph.

I do agree that if this maintains itself then rapid intensification is quite possible when it goes offshore.

Which brings me to my question, AFM should we be concerned.

Pressure dropped 3 mb since LF at 5 am this morning going from 989 MB (29.28 INCHES) to 986 MB (29.12 INCHES). I don't think I ever seen that!

Finally... cloud tops starting to warm near the core

...And cooling and deepening over the east coast waters.

3 mbar drop in 6 hours isn't as uncommon as it seems.

if cloud tops start to cool and deepen away from the eye... that will mean the storm is spreading out and RI is not likely over the water

It is uncommon when it is over land, no?

AT 1100 AM...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED SEVERAL
BROKEN BANDS OF SHOWERS ON THE FAR SOUTHERN PERIPHERY OF TROPICAL
STORM FAY STREAMING EASTWARD AT AROUND 25 KNOTS...MAINLY ACROSS THE
NEARSHORE WATERS OF THE FLORIDA KEYS.

THE STRONGEST AND MOST CONSOLIDATED BAND WILL BE FOUND JUST SOUTH OF
THE LOWER KEYS...AND THROUGH NOON...THIS BAND WILL MIGRATE EAST
NORTHEASTWARD INTO THE NEARSHORE WATERS OF THE MIDDLE KEYS. SHOWERS
WITHIN ANY OF THESE BANDS MAY PRODUCE WIND GUSTS OF 30 TO 35 KNOTS...
ROUGH SEAS...AND A FEW LIGHTNING STRIKES. THE HEAVIER RAIN WILL
RESULT IN BRIEF SPELLS OF NEAR ZERO VISIBILITY. MARINERS SHOULD
EXERCISE CAUTION IF VENTURING OUT IN THESE WATERS...AND KEEP IN
MIND A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT.
