The problem is, with the core gone and the wind field expanding outward, inflow into the center has been cut off or severely reduced. It can take a storm days to overcome such a collapse. Remember Isidore in 2002? It took about 2 days over the Gulf to begin to re-fire convection near its center. I think I can safely say that Fay will not become a hurricane now. Let's see what the NHC says in the next few minutes.

Well TWC Channel is trying to make their headlines I guess. A landfall around Jax and a dying inland storm* wouldnt make people tune in to TWC for another week with a GOM storm!

*disclaimer - storms SHOULD weaken significantly over land...lol

Yeah, and Isadore had the entire GOM to work with starting from the Yucatan to the NGOM coast... It was quite the dry storm in Biloxi, hardly any rain, but it did have a large wind field and brought with it quite a storm surge.. 8.5 feet in Biloxi for only TS winds...

Well, there's Isidore, but what about Wilma? She had looked pretty ragged but still put on a show after leaving Florida.

NHC just issued a hurricane watch for the California Coast from LA to SF. Also just issued tropical storm watch for London. :ggreen:

Yes I think you are. Perhaps you're watching a storm in the E. Pacific

Since the old center is seemingly collapsed and the outer bands are now moving over water.

Would it be possible that the center could reform Closer to the coast and farther east?

Wilma was interacting with a cold front and transitioning to an extratropical cyclone after leaving Florida.

Are you seriously discounting the possibility of a GOM storm? Where have you been the last 6 hours or so?

Eye feature looks to be slightly reforming on Weather Underground radar.

No joke there about the cold front...I had to go out and check damage out on some of my projects after Wilma passed. It was quite chilly that afternoon... :cold:

Edit: Made for good sleeping with no power that night though!!! :D

Even though the possibility of a hurricane have gone down severely, remember that the possibility is still there. Like, we're looking at the storm that strengthened over land and produced an eye. She could also do that over water aswell. Then again, we are looking at the storm that also HATES water.

Definitely not, TWC is all but certain that this storm will be in the GOM and NEVER EVER reach the Atlantic...they have not mentioned hardly anything about it approaching NEFL.
