Upwelling by Fay Question.

#1 Postby jaxfladude » Wed Aug 20, 2008 4:15 pm

Does Fay have enough power to upwelling cooler SST's along her track, and will those SST's be cooled down enough to prohibit/slow down the energy for future tropical systems. How long until the SST's will be back to Pre-Fay temps....In other words if Invest 94L/future Gustav should or any other tropical system track over the sane SST's as Fay did, will the SST's still be cooled off...

My understanding is that only more powerful systems (Cat 3 and up) cause upwelling.

don't tell that to the bouy east of canaveral and the water temps in the area

bouy 20 miles east of canaveral went from 81.5 to 74.5 during fay's time mon-thur.

to my surprise water temps near shore central florida do NOT support hurricane formation (50 miles east, heck ya) but not north of jupiter,fl nearshore

Thats not true. Just look at what Dolly did to the western GOM.

As for Fay, it won't make too much of a difference since the waters near the coast aren't that warm anyway.
