One thing is true, where she is attempting to cross the peninsula is about where it is the thinnest from the Atlantic to the NE GOM excluding the very southern tip of Florida of course.

I would say that is pretty close, no more than 8 though. Radar images are the best view for estimating direction and speed. All satellite views are/can be deceptive, even visible....."optical illusions".

The radar center is expanding outward a good bit faster than it's moving. So you can't judge forward speed by using the edge or the heavy precip.

Thats what i was going by..the south end of the "doughnut" near orlando..

Not really, it will just be a depression so main threat is just rain. The worst path would be further south toward Louisiana where in that case it would spend more time over water....that's not looking likely right now though fortunately.

Given her enormous size, and the time of year and surrounding environment, I don't think she'll drop below TS strength on that heading until she's over Mississippi. If anything, Fay will pick up another 10 or 15 along the northern Gulf, since left-turning tropical systems typically intensify somewhat after doing so.

The radar is horrible at detecting movement right now...The center is clearly north of dab...As wxman said before there is a west wind there...

That Vis above :uarrow: says to me that this is still organizing. Great structure for a TS, and the circulation covers a lot of real estate.

Winds continue to increase here in St Johns county S of Jax. We are gusting to 50 now from the NE.

If that forecasted track is off by just 20-30 miles to the north could mean a great deal in what she ultimately becomes.

It's an illusion - observe the northern border of Florida: It's not straight. The state has been rotated against the compass for some odd reason.

Center looks like its tigthened up just a little bit on the Vis though the radar doesn't show that occuring at all. Anway its hard to tell what the motion is right now, would guess it still drifting but slowly back westward this time.

Maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see, but it looks ever so slightly north of west to me.

If you tilted the border to be aligned east/west then you'll note Fay is going iven more SW than she appears to with the border tilted. ;) That border does not run east west by the way.
