Tell that to the 10,000 people in my county alone that are still without power. Also, to all of the people that are having to use boats to travel down their streets. :)

No disrespect intended, but outside of the flooding threat, there will be little to worry about from Fay on the Northern GOM. Central Florida dealt with 60-65 mph winds and those are high enough to bring down some older/weaker trees, but we aren't going to see anything that high on the northern GOM.

Trust me... one good gust and a weak Live Oak can take out a power transformer... had that happen a few years ago here in Tally... had no power for 18 hours.

About 2 ft. below historical average for this time of year.

THANKS FAY!

Lake O is coming back to normal and its water level should normalize in the following days as most of the run-offs from northern and central Florida arrive at the lake.

Exactly!

I feel bad for all the people that have been flooded out but this is exactly what we needed. It's something that everyone should know could happen living in Florida. Just like Cali and earthquakes, you just have to expect that one day you will be hit.

The aquifer is in dire need of replenishment along with most if not all of the lakes here. Lake Monroe in Sanford was at least 6ft below normal whereas it was overflowing back in 2004 during all the storms. I'm curious as to what it will crest at since it's part of the St Johns system and all that water from Melbourne will eventually make its way up here.

Once everything is back to normal, this will be seen as something positive as our entire state will be at least a little more replenished. Leave it to mother nature to correct the imbalances

Flooding is the Rodney Dangerfield of weather. It gets no respect.

Actually, in my small county (Seminole), the highest the winds got were 39 mph sustained and 54 mph gusts and there were 18,000 people without power last night and major flooding. 10,000 people still have no power today. A lot of trees have fallen. Mix in the winds (although relatively mild) with the saturated grounds, and it can spell disaster.

very true

although most deaths are usually from storm surge flooding aren't they (unless you are in a deforested country i,e cuba, hispanola), i could be wrong about this though.

>>I feel bad for all the people that have been flooded out but this is exactly what we needed.

TWC last night said that homes flooded (wherever they were on the EC) numbered into the thousands. While clearly things drain a lot quicker there than they would in NOLA (giving people a chance to dry some of their stuff out before it molds), there will still be plenty of ruined houses, furniture and lives. So while the need for water is universal, the immediate pain brought to those who get too much of it would have them likely trumping your opinion or at least getting mad at it (not saying I am, just throwing it out there).

Steve

*edit* 12z (as suggested a few posts above) reduced the preciptable water down to a small pocket of 16" in and around northern Baldwin and Escambia, Covington, Conecuh Counties, AL.

I just saw that report on TWC from St. Augustine and it's still very rough there, the strength this storm has kept over land is unbelievable. If Fay could squeeze her eye back over the Gulf along the coast of the panhandle then she could probably continue to maintain if not slightly get stronger.

Inland the highest killer in a tropical cyclone is fresh-water flooding. Just look at Camille and Floyd.

the storm continues to remind me of a sort of sub tropical strom in nature, (highest winds out from center) or perhaps a nor'easter type thing. The heaviest weather right now is in NE coastal florida up thru coastal GA, and even SE coastal south carolina.

Is it my imagination or is Fay gaining a good bit of latitude?

Could Fay be trying to form a new center closer to the gulf? Or is that big band of convection out in the gulf pulling it? Looking at radar.

Still looks pretty much wnw, though it looks like she might just miss the Gulf.

Agreed, but she did make a northerly jog around Gainesville. Every little northerly jog makes a difference in less time she has over the gulf.

COC of Fay will get over the GOM.. how much and for how longs remains to be seen... it will probably keep at least what it has throughout the west journey along the NGOM until in goes inland, at which time it probably will begin to strengthen again... hehe...
