With Danny being upgraded tonight
(July 16th), we're now ahead of every year in recorded history....even 1933 and 1995 didn't have four named storms by mid-July.....right now we are on pace for a record breaking hurricane season (in numbers of storms) -- ***in 1997 T.S.Danny formed in the GOM on 7/17...but was the last named storm until September. This isn't an El Nino type season....so I wouldn't bet on a slow August/ September/ October this year.
FYI - the record for named storms by the end of July is five (1933, 1936, 1959, 1966, and 1995). We may have Erika in a few days....with almost two weeks still left to go until August 1st.
