Here I am again, making a grand appearance on the Front Porch for some pink lemonade and a Krispy Kreme!
Steve, Garrett, Sandi and Jeremy, thank you very much for the well wishes for my father. He was in a better mood today and has been eating a bit more than the previous two days. Of course, he can't wait to get out of the hospital. The infection is showing signs of going away, but being that it isn't completely gone, he will be in the hospital for at least one more day.
Jeremy, I thought of you when it was confirmed (had a feeling the night before he was admitted) that he had [at least] UTI. I am glad to hear that you are doing better.
The radar has indicated rain not too far from me and then overheard in the last half hour... but nothing falling from the overcast sky.
See everyone around!

Hi everyone
. I got RAIN today. :o Now it is humid. 74 and HUMID.
I feel like I am back in Florida.
I am watching coverage of the tragedy in Santa Monica right now
. Since it is local to me it is on all my local stations.
The remnants of Claudette are a-comin'.
By Friday we should see her leftovers.
More details to come elsewhere.
See you later. Joshua

well.....great news and bad news....what do you want first....... since its me typing this thing....I'll give you the bad news (sort of) Read closely.... its interesting!
I supposedly had to work Tuesday night, but with car troubles and my mind on vacation, I did not go in because I had forgotten about signing the sub card....my boss called me 7 times, left 2 messages on my cell. :o I realized that I had to work when I picked up my cell phone at 9pm Tuesday night, which was obviously too late (I was going to call my boyfriend....and then was like oh boy! I missed something huge at the Y. FYI...I had my phone on vibrate due to the running around that I had to do...so did not hear it go off) Needless to say, they thought I fell off the face of this Earth! One of the head honchos realized that the only way that I would miss work is if I had car problems (which I did). All is ok, but I have to help set up the Fremont Triathalon on Friday (its payback)....We just joked around and everything is ok.......I just owe my boss bigtime (hence the reason why I am setting up the swimming portion of the triathalon on friday)
Remember the piece of crap clunker that I was driving....not no more! Like I said earlier, my car was a hazard to be on the road....the tie rods in the front were shot. So instead of putting over $2000 into the piece of crap, it was HIGHLY advised to purchase a new (used) car....well, I did!!!
I GOT A NEW CAR!!! Its a 1998 Chevy Cavalier.....white w/ gray interior.
58,000 miles excellent condition!
I payed $5000 (yes it was purchased at a dealership.) Ironically, its almost the identical car to my boyfriends (his is black, mine is white) same make, model, year, almost the same amount of miles!!!! Its rather freaky that it turned out this way (that my car is almost identical to my boyfriends!!!!) We have a family curse with white cars.....there is at least one at each household....my grandpa and grandma, my mom and her 4 brothers all have at least one white vehicle in the driveway!!!!
I finally got my CD-RW drive to work........I had to pull a few strings, but thankfully, I had a COMPAQ CD available and I was able to connect and install the CD-RW drive. It was a pain in the butt, but I accomplished it!
Poppysky...thanks for the PM....that was a hilarious picture!
Ironically, that's something Cheeseheads would do.....but normally its beer....not water.
Tom....good luck with your dad....UTI's are not fun! They are royally a pain the butt (no pun intended)
Dennis....I hope you don't have to evacuate due to the Fire around Pinetop. Last year was bad enough.....it seems this year is worse. Hopefully, the remnants of Claudette can wash out some portions of the fires....that would really help the firefighting efforts!

I got 5 minutes and we're gone... got a volleyball game at 740... leaving early to get practice tho...
Went to doctor today... got a clean bill of health, then a scare around one... couldn't get urine to come out, finally got it worked out around 1730.
Happy b-day Tom!
Shannon, you needed those new wheels, huh?
Well, that's all I got time for! Back around 9,
Jeremy

Donna, Garrett, Jeremy and Shannon... thank you for the birthday wishes here on the Front Porch, too.
My father's UTI/kidney infection has basically gone away. He was waiting for an IV that two nurses weren't able to put in. (he has been on IV's [of course] on and off since Monday)
He was actually going to be released yesterday, however, the doctor found a nodule on the lower portion of my father's left lung, about 1.5 centimeters. An x-ray taken a few months that his primary physician looked at (he is a pulmonary doctor) said that he didn't think it was anything to worry about.
I feel that there isn't a problem, but we shall see. Thank you for your insights, thoughts and prayers.

Good morning!
Glad to here that your father is better Tom!
I had a busy day yesterday. I got my car inspected, sat in the liscence bureau for eternity waiting to get my tags, washed my car, washed my grandparent's travel trailer, mowed the lawn, and went grocery shopping. Whew! Like anyone wanted to know all that.
Looks like today should be a little less active, but then I look at the calendar and realize college starts back in about a month. :o Where did the summer go!?
Everyone enjoy their Friday,
Garrett

Thank you Garrett, still hoping for better news... but the news isn't entirely bad for my father. You certainly had a busy day yesterday, you should probably relax today.
There is actually no state inspections on cars in Florida. I believe that there aren't many states that do. Perhaps others will like to share this bit of information.

*sigh...it's nice to be able to catch my breath and get online for a few...what a crazy busy summer we've had. Our family members return to Chicago on Sunday, and then our lives return to some normalcy.
Has anyone ever tried Buffalo meat? We attended a dinner party last night, and the host served a beautiful 15 lb slab of buffalo prime rib....it was excellent!
Guess I'll check out the chatroom now...take care everyone!

Hey RP....I missed you; and am very thankful you and your family are safe.

Speaking of wetting your pants, if lightning blew my phone off the wall, I'd be changing pants too....in fact, I'd need a new pair of underwear AND a roll of Charmin

One summer afternoon about 25 years ago, Becky (my little sis) was sitting here in the living room during a severe storm....lots of lightning, thunder shaking the house.
She was sitting in a chair and had her bare feet propped on top of a metal box fan sitting in the floor (which was unplugged due to the storm)...and lightning struck a neighbor's tree. She jumped up and went to screaming and crying -- that lightning bolt somehow ran onto that metal fan and shocked Becky's feet and ankles.
Not only did it shock her feet and ankles....but also her mouth...she was 13 years old and wearing metal braces on her teeth. Sis said it felt like someone had stuck her heels and her mouth in an wall socket...her mouth tingled for at least 15 minutes (we called an ambulance, but she was okay....didn't even have to go to the hospital).
We've always figured if that fan had been plugged up, Becky would have been either have been seriously injured or killed.

It was a cordless phone. Just after lightning hit, (not sure where) the handset landed on the kitchen counter. I had to pitch the phone in the trash. There was no physical damage to it that I could see though.
I had lost dial tone on all the phones on that line and the phone co asked me to go around unplugging them all and narrowing down the problem. When I unplugged that one, the dial tone was restored.
It also kicked a GFI breaker to AC outlets in the garage. But, I didn't realize it until the next day. I went to dig something out of our freezer in the garage and it just didn't feel that cold ~0F. Looked at the thermometer and it read 20F :o I'm so glad we were going to have a roast that night, cuz the roast would have been toast in another day or two.

That is lucky!! I didn't feel any electricity, but did get a dose of adrenaline that lasted for rest of the night !!
