Gustav is struggling right now. Radar shows her entraining a huge gobble of dry air SE of the eye, with the southern eyewall on the verge of collapse.

I think what you're seeing there is the southern eyewall still partially on land.

I do not see that at all. He looks very much intact and poised to strengthen once again.

Guys here's a map of the oil infrastructure and katrina's footprint, ignore katrina and just look at the infrastructure, if this thing turns westerly as it approaches the shorline or skirts the coast a hundred miles or more it would be devastating to the nation and send prices through the roof.

Well it now looks like Southeast, Texas is going to be spared a direct hit from Ol Gus. With the current forecast track, I doubt we will see much in the way of Gus here in Montgomery County. I sure am glad of that. Now it's off to the ranch tomorrow in Madison County to get some work done! Man it's been a long week of discussions and model watching. I'm glad I can breath a sigh of relief now.

Prayers outbound for all that are effected by Gus. It looks like he is going to pack a punch!

I hope that a lot of people evacuated from Key West and the others. Gustav is too close for comfort to them for me.

IMHO, I don't think that Gustav will have that much of a problem coming back to almost where he was previously. Nothing has seemed to have knocked him down so far.

Spoke to my Dad down on Big Pine. It's stormy, he's had some decent gusts, but he's been through worse than this many times. Run-of-the-mill for them down there.

Is it just me, or am I already beginning to see Gustav coming back?? Click on the below link. The Reds are already on the increase and beginning to wrap, and it's lightening up a bit around the center(eye).... It couldn't be strengthening already could it?

Of course it's strengthening, past history shows that Gustav always bombs out after leaving land.

Yeah, I think it's moving too fast for any last minute surpises for us. It looks pretty much like a lock for SC or SE LA at this point. I really feel for NOLA and the southern parishes.

That said, we could be in for a major flood event over Texas. That in itself could be a big event later next week.

I think there's a curl of clouds into the eastern part of the eye. The entire eye is probably slightly more east than that IR shot makes it look. The core and eye are starting to take a donut shape. Would not be surprised to see buzzsaw over loop current from this. Quick recovery soon.

and nobody evacuated in key west, i'm sure some tourists left, but key west did not ask them to as far as i heard per NHC
