Is that the center or is that just an area of no convection?

Convection is expanding and wrapping around, and the eye is clearing out.

Without question, this storm is organizing. Just not rapidly.

Gustav may not be getting stronger yet but it does seem to be getting larger: http://metofis.rsmas.miami.edu/~dortt/s ... 1_loop.gif

Hanna?? Uh oh u p'owed GUSTAV off now that u called her the wrong name.

i know DUH, but seriously i think this is a huge plus that she can't get her eastern side over the loop

I agree this seems to be helping a bit..... I think we may see though a better orginzation soon.... but not too soon... it may look a little worse before it gets better. Dry air may be doing a number on this...

Remember he went from a strong TS to a cat 4 in 24 hours, don't underestimate Gus. If you are in the warning area, you need to be evacuating, not reading a message board.

Unfortunately, FOX and Bob Breck aren't streaming, I'd like to hear ol' Bob.

Yes the eye clearing out again but thankfully Cuba and shear and dry air have really weaken Gus overnite, let's hope for more weaking.

I was trying to find a still image of Gustav post Jamaica and pre-Isle of Youth to compare.

One thing I did note that Gus did indeed form the "fist-like feature" right prior to RI as deep convection began to wrap around the center.

just an observation from a rank amateur.

This buoy is in for a near direct hit.

Ugh...there is no dry air. And shear apparently wasnt a problem for Gus, seeing as it strengthened so quickly under 20kt of shear. Just land interaction and structural changes.

I think we're about to see Gustav do what he did right before he hit Cuba, not only is he getting better organized but the overall size of the storm is increasing.

The IR is starting to look more impressive on this storm but the WV is still lackluster at best. The eye has definately cleared though. The eyewall is still quite ragged though, anyone know when the next recon is scheduled?

I think that buoy is the station reporting in this view. Looks like it will be just east of the center.

Yep the eye is really clearing out now, but the east side still remains weak. I wonder why this is so reluctant to shift the convection to the east side.
