Re: Cat 3 Hurricane Gustav in Gulf of Mexico
Obs from SW pass are pretty impressive, and suggest this cyclone has some severe gusts. Almost MH gusts and not in the eyewall.

Pretty much NW stormcenter, though the last radar return is suggestive of a motion back towards the WNW...
I'm still thinking this is heading into Houma, Stake Island may yet get into the NE eyewall and if it does then they are going to get cat-2/3 conditions...don't be surprised to see gusts upto 100-110kts down there.

Yes, I agree KWT. It has taken a twist more to the west again in the last couple of frames. I guess the next question is going to be what effect the land has on direction? Does land tend to slow the "leading edge", resulting in a change in direction?

Re: Cat 3 Hurricane Gustav in Gulf of Mexico
Just for the record, Southwest Pass is not in Grand Isle, it is near Venice, LA which is 41 miles east of Grand Isle. Many of us Louisianians have fishing camps in both Venice and Grand Isle so we are watching the conditions constantly. I am certain both places will be hammered hard but I just wanted you to know they are considered two different locations down here.
I am in Prairieville right now which is approx. half way between Baton Rouge and New Orleans along the 1-10 corridor. Conditions are pretty quiet here right now but we are looking to deteriorate very soon. Looks like Gus really picked up its forward momentum recently. We were estimating the eye would hit the coastline at 1pm here but it is looking like it will be a lot sooner.
Good luck everyone. Stay safe.

Yep sustianed cat-1 conditions and husting into the top end of 2 so if theres any damage to be done, it'd be pretty extensive.

Current conditions. I don't understand the "fog" in Boothville.
I think it must heavy rain.
Anyway check out pressure readings.
