KANSAS CITY, Kan. — There's the good cop, bad cop routine. But what about real cop, fake cop?
According to prosecutors, that is exactly what suspected police impersonator Clifford Holloway tried to pull on June 11 when he donned a bogus badge last week and tried to pull over another driver.
His target? Real cop Matthew Bandler.
Bandler, who was off duty, was driving his red pickup truck to the Metro Patrol Division when a car began following him and flashing a blue light.
The vehicle had no police markings so Bandler called a police dispatcher from his cellphone. A responding on-duty officer tried to pull Holloway over, but he sped away.
A high-speed chase ensued, ending when Holloway ran over road spikes, lost control of his car and crashed into a pole. He allegedly ran through a number of back yards before being collared outside his own home.
Police found handcuffs, a night stick and other law enforcement paraphernalia in Holloway's car, according to court records. He was charged with resisting arrest, impersonating a police officer and a handful of traffic violations, thus ending his fake law enforcement career.

In nearly every jurisdiction I know of, impersonation of a police officer IS a felony. You can imagine why this is (or should be) the case; the authority and responsibilty inherent in the commission is a heavy burden to carry, and the officers have many rules and regulations to oversee that their mandate is not abused.
Some civilian with a shield, firearm and the "appliances" is capable of doing unspeakable crimes...and tarnishing those who have EARNED that responsibility.
