Some flooding reports:

As has been reported by CNN and various sources, the Industrial Canal is starting to flood.

Jourdan River in Kiln is in Action Stage, expecting to enter Flood Stage, along with Tchoutacabouffa River in D'iberville. Most of the Action Stages are occuring east of New Orleans (New Orleans is at 10 feetish right now, Flood Stage is 17). The closest one to Moderate Stage is the Bayou Sara at Saraland.

The water is "just" overtopping the levees right now, which is expected and fine as long as the levees don't breach.

It looks to me like the waves are just starting to roll over the Industrial Canal now, not just up and over.

CNN reports aerial surveillence helicopters are going to be launched in 30 minutes to check the status of the levees and see if anybody requires assistance.

Stephanie: Sorry, should've said that, and you are right.

Just so it's not misunderstood. Overtopping is ok. Breach is bad. Those levees can take some overtopping and it will flood but that isn't major. Some trees coming down behing my house but can't be from the wind. They must have been on their way out and weakened. Limbs falling on my house from the oaks above me but still nothing is really bad at all. For Katrina I had sewerage backing up through my tubs, toilets, etc but this time so far NONE of that. So far so good here in BR except being out of power. Thank God for generators.

As a note, CNN is showing a TON of overtopping footage as well.

Well I definitely believe with all my heart that New Orleans can not sustain a Cat 3 strike. Just look at the reports already. Lower 9th ward... these poor people have been through enough!

Locally the winds are picking up. We are probably 2.5 to 3 hours from the eye coming directly through Lafayette. Awesome news coverage here locally. http://www.katc.com

No reports of lost electricity from any of my family in Lafayette, so right now all is good!

Stay safe everyone!

I have my doubts about the levees being able to stand this.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of you in Lafayette!

Hopefully, Gustav will just be a good "test" of how far NO has come in rebuilding their infrastructure and how much much further they have to go.

Still trying to get info out of Houma and lower Terrebonne Parish. They are taking the brunt of this thing. Anyone seen or heard anything new? They are about the get the surge from the south so I'm getting a little anxious.

I wonder why CNN has not gone back to Gay Tuchman after he mentioned water coming under and through levees.

Shepard Smith on Fox just described how the water coming over the levee turns the dirt to mud and then that weakens the foundation and can cause the levee to fail. Is that true? Seems kind of poor planning to have the foundations vulnerable to water. I know they're rebuilding the levees and all, but still.

Members of the National Guard are heading to the 4th Ward for assistance, so I surmise other Wards will receive assistance as well, if needed.

I wish you the best of luck as well crazycajuncane, and anybody going to be, or being, affected by Gustav.

Just talked to my Mom in Niceville and she reports that the weather is "dicey", but all is well in Niceville.

Sounds like a good general description to me. I caught a few hours of sleep, but I can report that we still have power in Mobile. On the other hand, we've had plenty of tornado warnings through the overnight and into the morning in the KMOB CWA. I mean you literally can't go 10 minutes without another warning being issued.
