Whoo, I was worried about Hanna there for a while!

But if you click on the 5-day track forecast you'll realize that it's suddenly morphed into rapidly-weakening Tropical Depression Genevieve.

Phew, and everyone thought this was gonna hit the East Coast.

That's a... large storm.

Obnoxiously large. Based on the wind fields, Hanna seems almost subtropical... but that's only based on the bizarre large wind radii combined with the tiny (comparatively speaking) storm-force radii.

Looks to me this has several vortexes at the moment looking at the Sat.imagery. There is some turning down where the NHC center is but there is aslo a strong circulation to the NE. I wonder whether thats the MLC and the two are decoupled?

gatorcane - if tropical storm force winds extend out 290 miles.....do you think we will have TS force winds in palm Beach County?

what a mess! what is that on her left side that extends to the NW bahamas is that a deformed ULL

also i think i may see the first signs of the upper low of the NE starting to move out (or maybe it's just rotating again)

perhaps hanna will just go out to sea, should models trend east any more this could be a reality, although a close brush with the outer banks seems like the minimum possible interaction right now.

looks like a growing quasi tropical feature to me , i think the interaction with the ull feature on her west end will keep her weak for awhile, she IM growing opinion will not get her act together till she crosses 27-28 N and gets away from this feature.

Thanks, but at this point climatology and model shifting has me thinking the paradigmatic Wilmington to Cape Lookout skirter. That wouldn't bring much weather to the Raleigh/Durham area. On the other hand, I've been craving a shrimp burger from El's Drive In in Morehead City...

Great place to eat
Looks as if we might get some rain any way. Thank God I hope it stay on the forcast as it is now cause it puts it over my house.
I also hope farther North Va ,NJ get the rain too.

edit well there may be seeing that they are forecast to extend 200 miles to the NW, but school would still be on

With a near 300 mile wind field, and it could still grow, it is possible for parts of the east coast to get TS watches or warnings if Hanna leans towards the west part of the cone.

Maybe it's an illusion... but take a look here...

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/flt/t2/loop-vis.html

Right under that big northern blob, on the southern side of it. You can see some spinning and it's booking (compared to what it was earlier) it to the west...

Right near 21.8-9N 71.7-8W

Any comments?

The wind fields are more limited west of the storm; most of the winds extend towards the east.

If there are multiple low level vortices defining the storm's "center" then they'd likely rotate around a common central axis. Therein, the westward motion of the northern vortex could be caused by it rotating counter-clockwise about the common center.

I would think so too. The storm like you said is lager and should give East Fl some rain and a little wind. If she get her Butt in gear.

You know you don't have to put the disclaimer after every one of your posts. Only ones where you make a forecast.

silver star for you (i would give you gold but it's not booking to the west) in fact it's barely moving

she actually looks much better from the visible

we shall see how much the ULL to her west will hurt her...NHC says it will entrain dry air and shear and keep her in check in the short term..but who knows....with hanna

There is one thing I CAN say with certainty.

The tropical cyclone report for Hanna will make for a VERY interesting read...
