In the box of nuts and bolts I've been shaking I forgot to throw in the fact that Ike won't be stalling over some island or crossing one on the official track. Overwater track should add to intensity.

Oh yeah and here is what the HPC thinks will happen, this is not something Ivanhater will take pleasure seeing:

Its amazing to think we may have another major hurricane threatening land so soon after Gustav.

The big question is, how did it get there? Thru or around?

According to the HPC 7 Day Forecast, thru SE/FL to WF/FL and makes a second FL landfall in the panhandle around PC. Not good!

i call the the maxmimum pain track as far as amount of people affected by the dangerous north and east quads of a major, you dont want to be within 50 miles of the north or east quads of ike

I major hospital I just visited in Central Palm Beach County is putting up its storm shutters. Looks scary. Do they know something we don't?

What we need to know is when the NHC puts up their shutters

WSW motion is still very prominent on satellite...good news for SFL...the further South it travels the better off they will be.

I don't think NHC building needs shutters...impact glass and other things like that....our City Hall is putting up shutters too...only because public works personnel will be doing other things on Monday to get the city ready.

Can someone confirm that Broward County's Port Everglades is closing? If so when? I suspect this is a rumor, which will cause gas shortages.

Looks like to me Ike is gradually turning more to the West... or is it me? Maybe hes rounding the bottom part of the ridge already?

Pretty much bang on the NHC track I think, motion around 260 in the longer term still though with the eye now getting pretty clouded over thats only a rough estimate now. Best listen to the pros.

LOL I remember seeing the NHC building with shutters back in '04 or '05...it was weird.

As for Max, I remember reading one of the posts this morning that someone heard him on channel 10 say that if he didn't have accordians, he'd be putting his up this weekend/sunday....

Looks like (per your avatar) you have the same generator as I do...great piece of equipment...I ran the bejeezus out of mine thru Francis Jeanne and Wilma. I now own two of them. I'll get out and start mine to "scare dance" Ike away! I ran it last week so it needs to get excercised anyway.

From their web site:

PORT EVERGLADES PREPARES FOR HURRICANE IKE
September 05, 2008

Port Everglades continues be open and operational while making preliminary hurricane preparations.
It is anticipated that the U.S. Coast Guard will announce a 48-hour alert at midnight on Saturday, September 6, which will require that all ships make the necessary preparations to leave the Port. Ships will not be required to leave the port until the Coast Guard sets a 24-hour alert, which depends upon storm conditions.

Landside, Port Everglades will stay open as long as it is safe for fuel trucks to drive on the road.

Today, after lessons learned from past storms, Port Everglades is more prepared than ever. FPL has installed hurricane-resistant utility poles and upgraded wiring throughout the Port to strengthen the electrical system. In addition, petroleum companies at Port Everglades have generators to continue filling trucks with gasoline and diesel fuel so deliveries can be made to local and regional retail gasoline stations.

Cruise passengers should check with their cruise lines for any schedule changes.

In total agreement with you Gator. I totally believe it is not time for some people to be complacent about Ike going south. He dips a little...everybody says its Cuba's problem, he bumps north, and he's hittin' Broward again...NHC is right on for now, and I think he will start his journey w and nw again, probably by 5AM tomorrow advisory...Totally imho...

Motion appears west to me. Also, a WSW track, in the short term, doesn't necessarily mean SFL is out of danger. Max Mayfield just said that Dade and Broward are still threatened and that Ike's windfield will expand.

Oh gosh, thanks for the big laugh this afternoon. I needed that. Really. See, I figure we're good either way. If your gen idea worked, we are home free.

If not, I'll bring the family and all the frozen steak and ribs I bought at the Albertsons 2 fer 1 sale last week down to your place after the worst of it passes and we'll throw a big picnic.
