Outside of losing power for four hours it hasn't been bad i Fayetteville. Gusty and rainy, plus a couple of really heavy rain bands. Lights continue to flicker occasionally.

And it's unGodly muggy .... sort of like an evening in the Okeefenokee.

Folks up the coast should fare well. Just have your coffee already made, in csae there's no power.

Hurricane death toll in Haiti passes 500 as floods recede

THE death toll in Haiti has climbed beyond 500 people after the area was hit by a hurricane.
While Hurricane Hanna did little damage as it raced past the Bahamas and posed only a moderate threat to the US East Coast, the death toll in Haiti has risen steadily as the floods unleashed by its torrential rains began to recede.

At least 495 bodies have been found in the mud-heaped port city of Gonaives, where thousands survived by climbing on rooftops, bringing the death toll to 529.

Ships and planes have begun to arrive with desperately needed aid for Haiti, which has been hit by three deadly storms in less than a month.

US authorities declared a state of emergency, several North Carolina beach communities were under evacuation orders and campgrounds were shut.

Storm alerts were issued from Georgia to New Jersey, as the eighth tropical storm of the hurricane season threatened the East Coast with flash flooding.

And Hurricane Ike initially looked far more threatening. However, it weakened as it charged across the Atlantic on Friday.

The US National Hurricane Center said Ike was expected to remain a "major" storm of Category 3 or higher.

That is just horrible news coming out of Haiti. Prayers for those people. We must always be aware that even though a storm may not have major effects on the US. Storms like Hanna can cause major issues for other countries.

Currently winds are sustained between 26-30 in Morehead City, gusts to 46. Light rain. Minimal damage so far, a few tree limbs and such. Spotty power outages in Morehead City, Beaufort, down east, and on the beaches. Some slight overwash of US70 and NC12, but not impassible.

Same here in New Bern and hardly a spot of rain. Have some yard cleanup to deal with but overall faired well. Not much rain at ALL on our side, that was a bit disappointing as we're still well below average.

looks like Hanna is right over me know. I would guess we have had 2 inches of rain... not much wind maybe gust to 20. You can tell up in the tall trees the wind is stronger at 100 feet... pretty neat.

well as the officials here in Myrtle have said, this storm was pretty much a non event here. The storm came ashore in Little River. There has been a little flooding, which is probably the worst part for most people;minimal damages, so lose awnings and such; aprox 400 customers lost power; And on the beach apparently it turned into a party. My daughter came back last night from taking pictures, but half the people who would walk by in her view were pretty much naked! Even the local newscasters were talking to people on the beach and it was pretty obvious most were feeling umm very festive. Too bad most storms do not end up this way.

Just returned from touring the island where I live. It's just a few miles east of where she made landfall. The beach took the brunt of damage. Small dunes in front of the main dune line no longer exist. Sea Oats all knocked down, but just from sand covering them, so they'll recover fine. Very minor damage to older buildings and some flooding along the main beach road. Power was out for just short time during the worst winds. (all lines are underground) The lightning was really cool as the eye passed to our west. Not much else, which is great news. Our prayers are with Haiti which obviously is suffering now.

We're waiting for Hannah's full force here in Southern New Jersey. We've already had a few bands come through since last night. It is MUGGY as all get out.

We are under a Tropical Storm Wind Warning and Flood Watch. It looks like the majority of the rain will be to my west. We're looking at 4 - 7 inches of rain possible. It's going to be a wild afternoon and evening.

So far it's been a good amount of rain (we need it), but almost no real wind to speak of. It should peak here in about 4-6 hours, so we shall see.

Winds still pretty much sustained arounf 30 in Morehead City, gusting into the mid and upper 40's. Max gust I recorded here was 54 MPH at 0846. No accumulating rain since sunrise. Most power outages have been repaired and roads are clear. Water is still a little high on the north side of Core sound.

Although wind force is not much of a factor, Hannah has a huge windfield. I have seen hurricanes with less reach. I am very grateful that she was only a tropical storm, because with this large wind radius, there would have been a huge area of damage if she had been stronger. The center is inland and close to Virginia, and we are still having about the same conditions as we did at daybreak.

Think I'll go send up a word of thanks, and concern for those well south of us to whom Hannah was not so kind, and for their potential next visitor.......

For our northern friends, Hannah is not too bad, about like a nor'easter.

It is really muggy here on Long Island. Luckily this thing's basically gonna be in and out of here as it looks like, plus the fact it's been weakening. I do expect some downed tree branches and maybe a few power outages, but it doesn't look like we'll get too much damage if that's also the case down in NC

Checking in from New Bern.
It's still pretty windy here, although nothing like last night. The worst wind was probably between 2:30am and 4:30am. Not much rain and none this morning. We have power at our house but know that our church doesn't (my husband works there). It's about 5 miles west and south of here. We have a few small branches and lots of leaves down in the yard. The main area of impact that we see is along our little beach in our back yard along the river. It's pretty much washed away. We have a line of medium/large rocks between the beach and the hill in our back yard that leads up to our house. Debris, including lots of small dead fish, washed up over the rocks and most of the sand is gone on the little beach, exposing lots of rocks that we didn't even realize were under the sand!
