Your ideal vacation

#1 Postby azsnowman » Sun Jul 20, 2003 11:33 am

If you could have your choice of a vacation, what, where would it be? Mine, I would "LOVE" to travel the US in a RV, starting in Washington State, travel down the Pacific coast, travel along the GOM, then up the eastern seaboard around the beginning of autumn, stopping along the way of course and meeting some of you

Steve - good topic, once again.

Just out of habit, I wanted to describe a vacation our family has become used to: somewhere we haven't visited yet. We enjoy hiking, biking and just seeing new sights. Lots of photo opportunities. We are not the beach type family. Now Nina could get into that but as a whole, we are not beach lovers. Walking a beach is nice but laying out for hours, is not fun - I sunburn easily.

Now if I had my way, my ideal vacation would be very low key. At a nice all inclusive resort. Good food, sleeping in, time to read a book or two. Just plain relaxing. But our family vacations are usually fairly busy, so this type of trip is only a dream!!! And oh, I wouldn't mind taking advantage of all a nice resort has to offer - massages, dining, mini-bar's, room service, shopping, etc. Again - just a dream! Maybe if I won the lotto we could take this type of vacation....LOL

Hey...I like to get credit for Dennis' topics. Thanks!

As for a favorite vacation, well, I like natural beauty and man-made comfort, so wherever I can go where the quality of the natural environement is matchec by the quality of the man-made environment, I am happy.

In other words, give me clean spacious accommodations in mountains, along the ocean, or anywhere beautiful...and then leave me alone to read, relax, hike, or do nothing...and I'll be happy.

LOL Steve! OH......I forgot, I'd now HAVE to take my golf clubs and hit a few courses along the way, now THAT would make for a *perfect* vacation.

There is only one place I'd like to see again..."vacation" or not...and that's Fargo-Moorhead (ND-MN) during the Thanksgiving-to-Christmas/New Year season.

I MISS the North Country...

Steve...uh....Dennis....??? LOL, Miss Mary, that "az" thing
gets us every time, don't it? I've been guilty of it,
myself, and, I THINK that they're both pretty forgiving
kinda fellas....:ggreen:

I'll take a beach...but, not to sunbathe...I'd rather scout the
local scenery by day, and, listen to the ocean waves in the
late evening, right at sunset, or early morning.

Geez, Louise - did it again.

Crimeny, when will I look at the current topic's author and not a previous topic?

So sorry Dennis!!!!!

PS - Linda - yes it's evident I need that ideal vacation right now!!!! LOL Oh well, it's a product of prying the computer away from my kids for a few minutes and then logging off, b/c you have to go somewhere - just a normal summer around here. And I remember you saying you had this very problem until you got your own pc. Need to look into that!!!!

PSS - Annette - but in my case, I keep doing this. At least 3 times now.....they're both gonna clobber me!

I haven't been on "vacations" per se. My move from Massachusetts to Florida {in June 2000} has been like a "vacation in itself."

I would really like to spend some time in Washington, D.C. and New York City, yet... aside from riding through New York City, just about by accident, once... instead of looping around the city to the west; which I have done when going on road trips to the Washington, D.C. area and Charlottesville, Virginia in June 1996 and South Carolina, several years earlier.

Also, at some point I would like to travel through all fifty states, that apparently won't be for a number of years..... maybe I will go with one of my brother's and sister-in-law (his wife, of course) some day.

Dennis - the vacation you described sounds wonderful to me. Travelling across this great country and meeting members of the storm2k family would be a fantastic vacation! :) Oh, and don't forget the cruise to Puerto Rico to meet a few more of our good storm2k friends. 8-)

I would go on an around the world tour (never leaving the plane, of course) Last year a number of lucky people paid good moneyto try and break the record for flying around the world. I think they finished it in something under 50 hours. If they ever do it again, I"ll try to get on.

Ok, is this the dream vacation where you have all the money and time in the world? Well if that's the case. I would buy a big RV and hire a driver - that way I could see it all. I would then invite any friends and family that would want to come along. We'd just drive across the US seeing everyone and everything, stopping when we wanted to stop, eating where we wanted to eat. If a hotel looked good or a State Park or even a cabin in the woods, we could stay as long as we wanted. I really love to camp and cook when I camp so this would be ideal.

Of course, Dennis, I'd have to bring my clubs along. By the way, you better stop in the Burgh when you come out here. I have the Tee times already!!!!!

As long as we are dreaming of a perfect vacation, I thought I would throw my own idea of one in.

I would start off by myself at a spa in Bali. I would enjoy massages every day for week and do nothing but soak up healing oils and lay around. No cooking, no cleaning, no husband, no kids. I would be waited on hand and foot and love every minute of it. Then I would cruise on over to China and meet my family there. We would stay a week or so and enjoy the culture of the far east. I would then take off to Katmandu for a week and then send the kids and hubby off elsewhere. I would live and study with Buddhist monks for a few weeks, and learn what being at peace is really like. After all of that I would probably head to Greece and meet up with the family again. I would eat feta cheese and Mousaka and drink Greek wine for a week while soaking up the sun and diving for sponges. My next leg of the vacation would be to travel to New Zealand. I would love to visit the Maori and learn some of the customs and traditions. Oh boy I have taken up almost the whole summer already and haven't traveled to Europe...oh well thats the next vacation. After all of that I don't even know if I would want to return home to the life I have here but in reality I know I would.
