Interesting post aristotle, but I think alot of it is a natural adrenaline rush as well. It's not that people necessarily want them to come but you can't blame some on here for getting very excited once you become the prime landfall spot less than 3 days away. Hell the day before Gustav hit I was a million-miles a minute, just the rush to protect what you own and the fear of what is coming. The anxiety had built up so much fearing what major hurricane winds would do here I was in a frenzied state as well as alot of other people I know who don't even follow the weather nearly as much as I do. Basically don't mistake some poster's apparent "excitement" for the storm as wish-casting, and I think most that have been through hurricanes can relate to these feelings.

Well said!

That's only slightly North of the previous track. Why did the NHC bring it all the way near Galveston?

Partly an optical illusion - the NHC doesn't show the curve so we assume a straght line which is closer to Galveston...

Dry air keeps trying to intrude on that west side, but with no success at all

It's the same track - this connects the dots in a more natural way, while NHC uses straight line segments

edit - dang, beaten to the punch on the second point

So we can still expect it to curve into an area between Matagorda and Freeport?

Yeah I know its easier said then done. However Unless his IP was blocked he knows he can get the response he is looking for here now so what keeps him from registering a new account and doing it all over again?

EDIT - But any ways lets forget it ever happened and get back to our discussion on Ike. Recon will be interesting this morning to see if the pressure has continued to dropped and the winds have started to respond to the pressure drop.

Which makes the rest of your post moot.

Safe...sound...and not well versed in the mechanics of a storm's aftermath.

Give me a break. You don't have to have experienced a hurricane's raw power to know the fundamentals of human nature.

Seems that people are very edgy today. Can we please stop with the hostile comments? It's getting very tiring, even for me who's a thousand miles away from any hurricane zone but is still very interested in tracking it.

The way he was banned is what will stop him. Get back on the discussion please.

A couple of years ago I violated one of my cardinal rules and posted a direct image link to a tiny (less than one kb) image, a rather unnoteworthy one at that, that I'd seen on another message board.

And this was on a message board where the average post generated less than 30 page views, so I figured no big deal. It's just that the image fit the exact message I was trying to convey.

The board owner or admin, instead of just blocking the image or sending a null one, substituted the most obscene image I've ever seen with a warning that unapproved links would be dealt with this way.

It took me 2-3 minutes to realize what had happened, and I immediately deleted the image link from my post. You can't even imagine how awful this substitute image was.

I contacted the person supposedly in charge and threatened a serious lawsuit if any such thing happened again, and suggested I might test to see whether or not my warning had been taken seriously. This guy was so lucky I did not actually sue, but he did reform his act.

Word to the wise, don't ever link to an image without permission from another domain. It may come back to haunt you.

If I were in the cone anywhere near there I'd be preparing. And keeping an eye on the NHC.

Wow, look at the convection go in that Accuweather sequence.

Hate to say this, but I'm afraid Ike may be in a "bomb out" phase from the looks of tonight's sat presentations.

Guess I'll find out in the morning.

Does Ike look like he's just chillaxin right now and not moving much? I would be what you would call an amateur, so this is just to my untrained eyes...

Edited to say that this is from the above image..it doesn't really look like he has moved in the past hour or so...

No one knows 100% what its going to do, Gustav proved that. I'm no weather expert, I'm only here cus I'm scared...

I can't do anything but agree. That center is wrapping tight with some cold stuff!

The last few frames of the above post shows a HUGE increase in the convection and its intensity!!

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "bomb out" phase?

WOW! A big ramping up of convective coverage overall.

It just looks like it's moving north because the convection is growing around it. It's an illusion.

bomb out phase is kind of what it sounds like...where the storm blows up in intensity and becomes much stronger
