Mandatory island evacuation expected

Galveston city officials called a news conference at 9:30 a.m. and are expected to call for a mandatory evacuation of all portions of the island.
Mandatory area evacuations already called are:
Tiki Island
Clear Lake Shores
Kemah
Bolivar Peninsula
Omega Bay
San Leon
Bacliff
Freddiesville
Jamaica Beach
West end of Galveston
Zones A & B in Harris County, including zip codes 77586, 77058, 77059, 77062, 77520, 77546, 77571, 77598
Areas urged to evacuate, but not under mandatory order:
Low-lying areas of Dickinson and La Marque
Friendswood
Those with special needs who registered for 211 will be picked up. Those who did not register with 211 should call 311 immediately if they need help evacuating.
Emergency evacuation routes include:
- Interstate 10 west to San Antonio
- Interstate 45 north to Dallas
- Interstate 59 north to Nacogdoches
- Highway 290 west to Austin or Waco.
Refueling stations will be placed along the routes.
There is no plan for contraflow lanes, as of 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
All area public school districts are closed today and Friday including: Clear Creek, Dickinson, Friendswood, Galveston, Hitchcock, La Marque, Santa Fe, Texas City and High Island.
Sounds like they got a fairly good plan.
