Newest slosh model, they say based on the 4am track...based on latests movements I still think this track may end up 30-ish miles west of this.

Ike's center is too close to its NW edge but right now has developed the best eye center so far in the Gulf. We may yet see one last organization before landfall (which is not good).

After looking at all these live links, I'm thinking...OMG
I pray that there are no people down there. I simply cannot believe how high the tide is already, very scary night ahead for Galveston. So very sorry for all people that are going to lose their homes!!!

Just heard Steve Lyons say it could strengthen a little more when it taps the trough...what would cause this?

Geez I hope everyone gets off of that island. Praying for everyone in Ike's path. All they needed to see was the MGC after Katrina. It wiped out everything. Homes buildings, anything in it's path.
I know for a fact there are mobile homes in Galveston. However, I don't think (hope) that those that live in them would stay. One park is directly behind the seawall around 80th street.

That's the scary thing: People are there. I just watched TWC and they showed that there were people on the seawall watching the waves and cars were still driving along Seawall Boulevard!StJoe wrote:After looking at all these live links, I'm thinking...OMGI pray that there are no people down there. From a couple of hours ago. I don't see that Ike has made much progress building an eyewall.

PTPatrick, maybe through Baroclinc enhancement?
Western Galveston without the seawall is already getting some bad flooding from the surge already, can't believe some of the pictures there given how far the hurricane is still away from hitting
Sadly those scenes will continue across the rest of Galveston tonight.

Could that be the moisture from Lowell?

The storm has a hard border when it encounters the trough that allows the trailing part of the storm to build in from behind while the new wind direction on the edge of the trough allows the system to tighten and vent up the trough.

As a side note, you always wonder if animals sense things. I have a Jack Russell who is normally bouncing of the walls and quite a character. This morning he is staying right under us and trying to hide his head, and when he does walk around his tail is tucked in. Not like him at all. He loves to go outside and lay in the sun and today we can't get him out....
