Like I said last night, Ike will let us know when it clears its eye.

Please refrain from comments about death tolls, not enough people getting out, people killed by trees, etc.
We're terrified enough. We did not make our choice to hunker down lightly (we are inland) and to that end are looking for useful information. Thank heavens I've been a member here for years and we feel very well prepared due to all the posters that I've come to consider friends (even though they don't know I"m here). Thank you Storm 2k. You guys are the best.

Because the waves seem to have been high enough overnight to suggest there may have been?

All is well. They shut a whole lot of flood gates, and they're doing their job. No problems reported.

Sadly in this case I think with the severe situation with the monster surge coming in, this is a rare event where it is justifiable...

Juat hearing a fraighter with 22 people is stuck in the gulf 90 miles SE of Galveston.

Thanks for answering that for us.

This storm is incredible. It seems so powerful for a CAT2.

Doesn't look like Ike will be much of a rain event in the NW quad.

You are inland and made the right choice to hunker down out of the surge. Trees will not be the killer in this storm...surge will. Inland from the surge is safe. You will experience a hurricane. It will be loud and scary but you are safe.

There is still a small window for lives to be saved so if there is any chance people here can make a last ditch effort to get loved ones into a shelter out of the surge, at the risk of having to say things that are unpleasant or pessimistic to hear, they should be said. Jim Cantore estimates 30,000 left in Galveston...half the city. I hope he is wrong. If you know any of those 30,000.....tell them to go to a shelter.

NFL pushed this Sunday's Ravens/Texans game to Monday night at 7:30 PM.

We'll have two Texas teams (Cowboys) playing on Monday night.

The first thing I wanted to see is a feed of SeaWall Blvd. Do you have a link or is this on television?

Thanks,

This is the most amazing link I've found to see what's happening there locally in TX. Thank you!

Very close to New Orleans. See attached link. Areas directly below New Orleans are flooding and will get worse when the wind changes direction out of the south later this evening.

We need a new category for surge. It's silly to call this a Cat 2. It underestimates the storm's power. The Saffir-Simpson Scale is really best for wind damage.
