I am SO pissed. :grr:

As many of you have seen, the woman and her thug boyfriend on channel 11 with the 2 adorable young girls...right on the seawall.

God, please take care of those children...and please do not let their mother's ignorance threaten their innocent lives.

I just wish something could be done right now for the children. If the ignorant mother wants to stay...more power to her, but as said, she wants to show her girls the power of the sea. Then do it from a t.v. far inland you stupid woman. I could just rip that woman's hair out by the roots for putting those two little girls lives in danger.

Reports on the Hurricane Net Scanner, it was a repeater message that there is a 50FT breech in the Starstell (or stardell?) Levee near Bellchase Louisiana (my spelling MAY be off here? sometimes a bit difficult to hear the exact pronounciation)

Hurricane Wind Warnings for the marine area, High Wind Warning for land. Of course, the GFDL output seems bizarre for the intensity over the Great Lakes/Canada.

- Jay

It brings it to hurricane strength over Missouri (At least an eariler run did) and kept it at such. If still tropical (unlikely), Hurricane Wind Warnings (and Tropical Storm Wind Warnings) would be issued for the land areas.
With all due respect, there isn't any precedent, so try not to sound as if you know what officially will happen in the event that the unlikely happens.
In Oklahoma last year we had a tropical storm reform over land I would say anything is possible at this point

And this doesn't qualify as child endangerment? You can get a ticket for not having your kid buckled in the car, but not for making them sit through a Cat2/3 hurricane?

With 16 children, he may not have had the resources to evacuate! They just said on TWC that there are no shelters in Houston pre-storm (Not sure if that's true or not). Therefore he would have had to drive a good distance to get to a safe place (with 16 kids). I'm not saying it was a good decision to stay...just saying that he may not have had a decision to make.

Yeah, I'm not saying that's why he didn't leave, just saying it could be...I don't know many people that would be saying how poor they are on national tv either though lol...

Can you please provide the link? I'm from down there and would know exactly where this is.

You're right, since NWS Central Region (responsible for the Midwest and Northern Plains) has never had to issue such and I am not sure what their policies are. I know in Southern and Eastern Regions, they have issued Tropical Storm Wind Warnings as far as their northern limits (in Katrina as far north as the NWS Nashville office, in Isabel as far north as the NWS Binghamton office).

NWS IND (Indianapolis IN) , LXV (Louisville KY), and ILN Wilmington OH) will probably issue high wind watches/warnings & flood watches/warnings as the remenants of Ike approach or as conditions warrant.

That's pretty nuts.. will let you know if that verifies!

Ike's structure certainlyt is looking a little tighter then it was earlier in terms of organisation right now.

I'm totally shocked how many people are still in Galveston Bay region, are these people totally insane but many people have no idea of just severe a surge can be there.

Still the surge is starting to come in now in a serious way, anyone got a tide measure right now to see where the surge is at?

I would be curious to know from the pros and veteran stormwatchers...have there been many storms with the level of pre-landfall surge flooding this far out from landfall as ike?

Nah, it's not 16 kids. Hours ago he was on CNN and said it was him, his wife, various relatives and kids - 16 or 17 people all together. He's in a building that survived the 1900 Hurricane (the old newspaper office). I am confused by the fact he has generators - where is going to set them up if they're flooded in?

(Hope I got the quote attributed to the correct poster I had to snip a bunch of embedded quotes)

I based my judgement on warnings issued along the Pacific Coast for strong non-tropical storms.

Belle Chasse is south of NOLA on the Mississippi.
