tolakram, wobbled just to the WNW which is a very bad sign for Galveston.

Also on fox you can really see the huge waves crashing onto the sea wall...

Wouldnt the wind direction right now be pushing water up the back side of Galveston and sort of flood it from the bay side first?

The NWC need to have a storm surge scale, reported by the media along with the saff sim scale.

misleading:

Category Two Hurricane:
Winds 96-110 mph (83-95 kt or 154-177 km/hr). Storm surge generally 6-8 feet above normal

You are all doing a great job trying to keep the public informed. I can't imagine the stress you are under, nevermind the people in the area.

God help everyone down there!

Slightly off topic but unless there have been two counties created recently, I think there are only 254 counties in Texas. In any event, it is possible that 132 of them could be "affected" because the counties in the west are very large and most of the counties are in the eastern 2/3 of the state.

Ike's western eyewall has become impressive during the last hour. This feature will likely transport some of the strongest winds directly over Galveston and the SW portion of Galveston Bay, which does not bode well for surge effects for those locations.
