How many false wind reports from Geraldo alone have we had tonight? I agree there needs to be laws against this. Such misinformation is inexcusable.
And how exactly you know this is false? It's a ctegory 2...you can get category 3 gusts.

135mph is category 4.

The Weather Channel just reported that the highest recorded wind gust was 84mph in Beaumont? I'm pretty sure that's what I just heard. Geezum.

you usually don't see live reports from that level. Check out TWC....reporter fell down with hurricane gust of 75 mph or so....

Wouldn't be surprised if they decide it was Cat 3 postseason.

Simple. He's standing up. He reported a 135mph gust. That would literally blow him down the street. It is impossible to stand in 100+mph winds without support. You need those boots and you seriously need to lean into it. I was knocked over in Wilma's TS winds. Its not easy to do, and he ain't no spring chicken. His thingie is probably set to km/h.

Geraldo reported 120-130 gusts an hour or so ago, which cannot be in mph. Gusts close to 100-110 mph are possible now, but they were not then. 120-130 km/hr gusts are equal to ~80 mph, which matches what I was seeing happening in his scene and behind him. There is significant structural damage occurring at winds of 120-130 mph, and he wouldn't be able to stand up in gusts like those. I've been hoping that the Fox News meteorologist would speak up to make sure Geraldo set his anemometer to mph. Disappointed that hasn't happened...

Most of it will be west of the eye. Eastern sections of the city proper might catch some of the eye.

There has been mention however that so much sediment has built up since the walls were originally constructed that even though the walls might indeed be 16' high that the effective height is much less in areas because of the build up. If the walls are 16' and 3' of sand has built up......

I wonder how much dredging if any has been done on the walls at all??

Unofficial prediction: landfall looks like it will be 7 miles SW of Galveston, 3-4 miles ENE of Jamaica Beach.

135mph is a cat 4, and if it was real, the result would have a million youtube hits by now.

The eye is visible on radar, but I wonder if anyone will be able to see stars for long inside it. This storm still has a weird structure.

If the storm continues NW, there will be more water pumped in the the Bay, but NNW or N, less and less.

I see a little wobble, but not a huge one. Still looks generally NNW to me.
