I wonder if this is the reverse surge from Galveston Bay coming in.

No, unfortunately the worst could be yet to come as the SE eyewall comes in that is when the reverse surge will hit.

TWC showing amazing shots of the surge just plowing through the parking garage in Clear Lake.

EDIT: Forgot to say though, the NE eyewall won't hit so that is quite good news. He is moving WNW to NW again now though so the SE eyewall will hit so Galveston only dodging a half bullet here.

There was another report a little while ago that between Galveston Country and one other low-lying county, that there were an estimated 90,000 people that refused to evacuate from mandatory evacuation zones.

If there are 90K from just two counties, just how many people didn't heed the call to evac from low-lying areas across all of SE Texas?

I'm starting to get a headache.

You know many have complained about twc but they are far above the rest on their coverage and professionalism during this storm. Good job, twc.

How many of y'all not in texas feel like you've just gone thru ike yourself? I'm exhausted. I can't even begin to fathom what our members in texas are feeling. Good luck guys & gals.

Looks like 5 minutes to landfall on the extreme east tip of Galveston Island.

I'm from Galveston (evac'd to Denham Springs) and I've been watching nothing but coverage of Ike for the past two days. I'm just benumbed by it all at this point. However, I dread going back to see what's left of our house.

Irony, one year ago this hour, Humberto made landfall a bit further north.

I expect a TCU shortly.

I guess the difference is that we are finally seeing only the Pros and best of TWC on the air.
No cutesy anchors and fancy music.
Just the facts

And Bettis sitting in the van (or truck) in Clear Lake is phenomenal footage!

Yes, kudos for TWC when they do it right!

Who cares if it's called a Category 2 or a Category 3? It's going to be the same storm, doing the same damage regardless.

TWC has done a fantastic job covering Ike's landfall, IMO. I have plenty of criticisms for TWC, but they have nailed the Ike coverage. They've largely been professional and must less sensationalistic than some of the cable news networks, and I've enjoyed all of their in-field and on-air meteorologists (including the venerable Dr. Lyons). It's worth shooting off an email to TWC to let them know that we enjoyed their coverage. FWIW, it's night and day comparing the coverage from TWC to that from Fox News.

Most metro Houston areas will avoid the NE eyewall however BAYTOWN will not.

If reverse surge is going to happen, we're still an hour away from that.

I think it already has. About 2 miles east of downtown Galveston.

Ike is stronger and more clearly defined than at any previous time I've seen this storm in the Gulf.

What's that saying about strengthening storms at landfall? Ike sure qualifies. The backside winds are going to be ferocious with this storm.

Do we have any members in Baytown? Because right now it looks like they'll be getting those 110-115 mph sustained winds (and yes I did say 115 just to spite you )
