Watching a live feed of a storm chaser driving around Sugar Land. Looks like hell right now.

it appears that the northeast side of this storm may not be the most intense right now. the strongest bands seem to be passing right over Houston.

Also of note, way over here in Lafayette, Louisiana its gusting pretty good outsidde. Had to take a look out there to make sure everything was ok. This storms wind field is HUGE.

I suppose it doesn't matter the entirety of Galveston is underwater right now, they sure dodged a bullet!

How far above sea level is that hotel that is 6 feet of water at? Also, is that a high point???

What hotel is it?

TV meteorologists are saying eyewall is still shrinking... hello houston

Making the surge 23-24 feet...?

Now that I think about it, that sounds pretty close to correct.

Dear God, I am praying for those poor misguided souls who chose not to evacuate from this living Hell. I am afraid that many of their souls may not be of this world any more.

I'd estimate the reverse surge will start in about 10 minutes. I sincerely hope those in Galveston and east are safe and get inside in these last few minutes before the backside hits.

I think there's enough data to say 100 knots in the postseason.

Sorry guys but I don't know which hotel it is. I think it's fairly high ground but maybe not too high because he is going to an upper floor. It's probably around 20 foot surge I'd guess.

It's just a little over an hour until high tide in Galveston.

At this point, you sound like a broken record. You've already said the same thing like 10 times.

Dr. Neil Frank said that Anahuac (I'm guessing the National Wildlife Refuge?) has a 120 mph gust.

Note: I know I'm gonna get flamed for saying this, but the storm definitely took a better track for galveston than the previous possible track, of right to the left of it. Reporters seem to be surviving just fine there.

Your second point is quite valid actually, but by no means did they dodge a bullet from the reports I'm reading.

It's on the east side of Galveston Bay.

Report from chaser Jeff Piotrowski:

The eye passed overhead around 2:10 pressure fell to 954 MB. The storm Surge is six foot downtown Galveston.

I'm currently in a five story parking garage in downtown Galveston about 20 cars are floating in the first level of parking garage also one 21 foot boat is now floating.

There have been a number of fires just before sunset one of the fires only one block away.

The buildings just burned fire trucks could reach the fires due to high water.

I understand that a full scale search and rescue will start after the winds calm down below tropical storm force at first light.

I've got a question. Being that galveston is an island will there be 2 landfalls?

Technically, yes. The second one looks to be happening right now at San Leon.
