Moist air and numerous scattered thunderstorms on Guadeloupe

#1 Postby Gustywind » Mon Sep 08, 2008 7:16 pm

Nothing special here in Guadeloupe, but i want to telll you that things are heating up a bit this afternoon, and describe you the weather here, pretty classical to have this type of weather: very moist with numerous showers and thunderstorms with frequents lightinings since 5PM.
Right now, things have calm down a bit, but for sure we experienced a very nice squall line at 5PM in my location  my anemometer has kept gustywinds ( not me  ) near 55km/h. Lightnings are always doting the area, the thunder is rumbling sometimes , but seems that the activity is decreasing hopefully :) just water right now to refresh us.

Hope that my others carib friends are ok and safe, a thought to you in Guadeloupe HUC, OURGAN, and the others from the south ( Abajan,...) the north (msbee, bvigal, Cycloneye el talento de la casa :) ) and the others maybe forgotten.
I'm glad to have some water it was a nigtmare all the week before, too hot and humid, hopefully seems that we're blessed ( Guadeloupe, Windwards , Leewards, Nothern Leewards and PR) in this beginning of the peak this year... for maybe only the moment?!, whereas we should not let our guard down carib islanders.
Well well , i "appreciate" the beauty of nature from my garden pretty green added to the cute ligthnings. Pretty active season with these dangerous canes Gustav, Hanna... and for sure mister IKE . All my prayers are towards Cuba  : keep the faith in this critical moment.... :) .
Very busy for now only the 8th of September, with.. 3 big weeks to deal with down the road, W-A-O-U-W and hope that you've looked at Africa this afternoon :cheesy: :darrow:

No time out called :double: :P i let you describe it this time....

Things has returned to normal right now, thunderstorm activity has decreased significantly yesterday night after my last post. We enjoy the sun this morning, whereas as usual a brief risk of isolated thunderstorms can not be ignored due to daytime heat and thus the convective activity in relation with the residual moist air and the weak trades winds near the islands. Hope that nothing has happened in the others locations of Guadeloupe and from my neighbours from the north and the south :). I wish you the very best all, Gustywind 8-) :D :) .

Hi my friends, glad to note that yesterday during the squally episode our Pro Met of Meteo france have some nice infos concerning the rain:
In my location ( BAIE MAHAULT)we received 127 milimimeters in only 3 hours  so it's a huge amount! and we have others pretty decents amounts at Petit Bourg 49 mm Versailles 61 mm Duclos 36 mm .
Hey HUC did you experienced amazing amounts too at Basse Terre? I will be especially glad to have your answer on it :) ...

Guadeloupe holds the world record for the most intense cloudburst: 1.5 inches (38.1 millimetres) in just one minute! Did you experience that event, Gustywind? I can't imagine what rain that heavy would look like.

Hi Abajan, no i did not experienced this event fortunately  , maybe HUC or Ouragan. Wheres it's interresting...more
recently with hurricane LENNY in November 1999, i know that at the local weather station of our Pro Met of Meteo-France have experienced 28 millimeters the 19th of November 1999 between 8am56 minutes to 9 am 12minutes; and the same day with Lenny 90 millimeters from 8am30 minutes to 9am 30minutes ( in one hour so it's a record at Raizet), 152 millimeters from 7am54 minutes to 9am54minutes (another record in only two hours), and to finish 301 millimeters from the 11/18/1999 4pm18 minutes to the 11/19/1999 at 4pm18 minutes( nasty record at the station   ). All these records are historics Abajan. :double:. Moreover during this episode a location in Guadeloupe, PORT LOUIS experienced 466 millimeters in 3 days, it was exceptionnal ans the 19th received 263 millimeters! another location received 300millimeters the 19th in 24 hours  :spam: waouw! something you would not imagine once again....

Hi Gusty,

We received 3.07" yesterday, most between 3-4 in the afternoon. We had no wind associated with it but CONSTANT thunder and lightning throughout the ordeal. So far we have had 6.46" this month which is about our monthly average for Sept. But as you say, we have a few more weeks to watch out for.

Personally I would like to go to sleep and not wake up until November
