Butterflies are free

Many of my co-workers and I have noticed a lot of butterflies, particularly monarchs, fluttering around in and around Atlantic City. We realized that they are probably on their migration route to Mexico for the winter. New Jersey is widely known as a major migration stop over for migrating birds.

I've always looked upon a butterfly as a symbol of hope and still do, even after this week with the stock market. It's been nice to to see their carefree dance in the sky while walking from the parking lot into work and then later on in the evening.

It's a great movie - definitely a chick flick. Goldie Hawn was simply adorable in it. I liked her in this one and also Cactus Flower. Here's more info on Butterflies are Free:

Yeah, I hear ya....there are a slew of new release rentals that I never get to see! That I try to remember to rent when hubby out of town on a business trip but he rarely travels anymore (which is a good thing) but then I forget these movie titles.....someday, I need a marathon of chick flicks! He's not into sci-fi either......at least my youngest daughter is though. That's another genre I like to rent too......he he

I've noticed a lot of butterflies here in Oklahoma too.

Autumn seems to be a popular time for butterflies around here. I've been seeing a lot of them lately, and I love to watch them. In fact, two weeks ago a gorgeous black swallowtail hatched out of his chrysalis right outside my house. I had been watching him since he was a tiny caterpillar, and I named him Alex.

I've gone across Lake Pontchartrain a couple of times these last couple of weeks and seen the migrating Monarchs flying over it. It's pretty cool.

Yep it does seem the butterflies are out in full force right now. I saved a black and orange beauty from my garage just yesterday. Also brought home a caterpillar from my great aunts house last Sunday. He has now cocooned and I am waiting for him to turn. This will be first time I have actually seen all 3 stages from Caterpillar to Butterfly. Its a dogface butterfly and thier chrysalis look like a leaf. Very cool.

I'm seeing a lot down here too this year. More Yellow Sulphers than I've seen in many years, and lots of Gulf Fritillaries too. A handful of other species in ones and twos.

The fly down the Jersey Coast ever fall. It's quite cool to go down there and see them fly by one after another and just think how far those little guys have to go,

I've never heard of the dog-face butterfly, O Town. You can definately tell by the markings that they are from the same family. Very pretty!

I think that the monarchs have came and went on their merry way to Mexico from their NJ pitstop. It is incredible how far they have to fly.
