I hate to say it, but Christmas 2008 is the very LAST thing on my mind!
We are not shopping right now, except for groceries and gas for our cars. Paying bills too.
And that is it baby!
Besides I have way too much xmas stuff as it is.
I may boycott xmas this year! I can't even get enthused about xmas with all that's going on (the economy, election, etc.).
It's enough to say - enough!
Let's get back to basics. I propose people skip gift exchanges and donate money to local families in need, in your own community. I'd love it if that would fly with my in-laws though.....dang. In our own immediate family, it would.

Yep, I heard most major chains are doing it earlier this year.....if thats possible......because of how broke people are in hopes they all start shopping early and space it out so they can buy as much.
Sears, KOHLS, and a few others had it out at the beginning of OCT.
Personally I can't think about it now........ugh.
Can you say STRESS?

All I'm buying is a new wreath for our front door as we're moving and the old one I think it's about 45 years old, we're due for a new one. Haven't bought presents in maybe 5 years or so, used to bake them, don't know what I'm doing this year yet.

See, that's the thing here - most are struggling and retail thinks we'll all put aside our financial worries and get into the xmas spirit?
They are just crazy if they think that.
I can't even begin to think about xmas. Seems like yesterday I finally whittled down my numerous xmas boxes in the basement, now all correctly labeled and organized. I also didn't keep decorations either handed down to me (from my mom, who likes to discard unwanted items, read: pawning them off onto others....LOL) or I had once purchased but didn't need, I donated them to a thrift store. Now I will say having the plastic bin labeled - xmas candles - really came in handy when Ike hit Ohio.......I just got out my thick, red pillars (during our blackout)! LOL Note to self: I wonder if I put them back with my other bin of candles, matches, batteries, flashlights, etc. or with xmas stuff.....he he I will not, repeat, not buy more red pillar candles this year....even if partially burned. LOL
I do think this early xmas push, will backfire.

Christmas stuff has been put out in october for the past few years. Nothing new about being put out now. I'm used to it by now and ignore it when i'm in the stores but it does start me thinking on what to get family and friends. Unlike some of my relatives who only give gift certificates i put alot of thought into my gifts and each gift is uniquely tailored to that person.

As much as I like Christmas, that is ridiculous. Costco has their Christmas items on Labor Day. Some radio stations play all Christmas music around November. It would not surprise me if one did it right after Halloween.

I remember as a kid, there was a large Christmas store, which later closed down.

Years ago, on our way to Traverse City, MI on a family vacation, we stayed overnight in Frankenmuth, MI. That is one very quaint, cute and at times, over the top little town. Something you have to see just once.
We had dinner at the home cooking restaurant where they bring you your meal family style. But you can't take any leftovers with you. It was a ton of food! This was years before the no-carb and diet crazes started. I have to wonder if they still push that amount of food? It was almost sinful, for 2 adults and 2 young children to eat. Way too much food. Very, very good though. Makes my mouth water remembering how delicious it all was.....I think the name was Zhenders? Something like that....
We had delicious ice cream in that town too.
Never made it to the xmas store though. Hubby said - Mary, you have enough xmas "cra*".....LOL!!! True, I do, I did back then and I still do......we probably had the trunk packed to the gills too with luggage and whatnot......
Okay back to xmas being early.....he he
