The 2003 hurricane season so far compared to past years

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/sju/hurricane.html

This is from the NWS office here in San Juan that are doing a great job covering the tropics and shows what has gone on so far this 2003 season and to compare it with past seasons that had active junes and julys. There is a sentence that is very important at the end that says EVEN IF THE REMAINDER OF SEASON IS NOT AS ACTIVE IT ONLY TAKES ONE TO DO ALL THE DAMAGE.

Thanks guys for the compliment to the NWS San Juan office that really are doing a great job discussing the tropics and I can say that they are one of the best when discussions come as well the NWS of Melbourne that are very good to in their discussions.

The seasons of 1933 and 1997 were two anomolies. The rest "suggest" a total of about 11 named storms.

You're right Luis, it only takes that one, which is why it is imperative that EVERYONE up and down the East Coast doesn't get too complacent. We haven't had a bad hurricane in years, and it only takes that one!
