Yes, it is...for Barrow Alaska, officially, the darkest time of the year.
So-long Sunrise! and Sunset for that matter.

Barrow, Alaska. On Tuesday Nov 18/08 at 2:32 PM, the sun set at Barrow, the northernmost town in Alaska. The sun won’t rise again in Barrow until January 23rd 2009. North of the Arctic Circle, Barrow gets the “midnight sun” in the summer. The sun shines 24 hours-a-day for about nine weeks. In winter the opposite is true. The sun falls below the horizon and they have nine weeks of continuous darkness. Though it is true that weather permitting for a couple of hours, ambient twilight does occur with the sun below the horizon.

Barrow lies about 330 miles north of the Arctic Circle.
On Tuesday, the high was 5F the low was -3F and there was just a trace of snow in the air.

Interesting. At our latitude we get 15:09 hrs daylight and 8:41 hours of darkness on June 21, and the opposite on Dec. 21.

At Miami Florida it's 14:15 and 9:45

At Panama City (Panama) its 12:38 and 11:22
