do you fel the same way about the conquest of Canaan? Most people celebrate it, when it was a genocide (and I might add, a very effective military tactic, used also by Genghis Kahn when he was able to subdue to lawless tribal area of Pakistan

If I was in an army with a leader (Joshua) that said God spoke to him.......I would go AWOL.

From an organization and timing standpoint, this does have the markings of al Qaeda. But if that is the case, then what this says to me is that we really have very effectively shortened their reach, because there's no doubt they would much prefer to stage any "spectacular" in the US or Europe. That they settled for near neighbor India indicates they weren't capable of doing what they'd really like to do.

Obviously this doesn't mean we can relax and there's much we could be doing better, but it's important to note when our strategy has been effective as well.

Let's get this thread off the issue of retribution, genocide, etc. and back on the topic of the attacks, please.

Is not over yet.

MUMBAI, India (CNN) -- Fighting broke out early Friday between government soldiers in a helicopter and gunmen holed up inside a Jewish center where two or three gunmen were believed to be remaining.

Fresh explosions have been heard at the Taj Mahal hotel, where police are trying to free hostages.

1 of 3 more photos » The helicopter dropped off seven or eight soldiers onto the roof of the Chabad house, and then moved away from the line of fire, CNN sister station CNN-IBN reported.

The operation followed after grenades had been tossed from inside the structure toward anyone approaching the building -- three such explosions occurred in four hours.

But movement appeared imminent shortly before dawn, when several jeeploads of police, firetrucks and at least one ambulance pulled up to the five-story structure.

The fighting at Chabad house comes as Indian security forces appear to be gaining control of two Mumbai five-star hotels attacked by gunmen in a wave of violence that has lasted more than 24 hours and killed at least 125 people.

The Latest information:

MUMBAI, India (CNN) -- Fighting continued to rage at two sites in Mumbai Friday as India again suggested that the terrorists behind the deadly attacks involved "elements in Pakistan."

Pakistan, in turn, disputed the claim and offered to send its intelligence chief to assist with the investigation.

By Friday night authorities had cleared the Oberoi Hotel, killing two militants and freeing hundreds of trapped guests.

But standoffs continued at the Taj Mahal Hotel -- where one gunmen is still holed up -- and the Chabad House, where several Jewish people are reportedly being held hostage by two to three gunmen, police said.

Al Qaeda is hardly the ultimately terrorist organization, though I'm not surprised when new groups spring up under their name. It gives them instant notoriety. CNN says the death toll is 146 and only 8 foreigners, so, despite what we've been hearing, Indian citizens have been the main targets?

Here in tourist-laden Florida we are very vulnerable to this type of attack, so, I would not relax in thinking that this was the attack feared by some before the end of the current administration...

It's similar to a bank robbery - just because one happened at a certain bank does not mean that there will not be others...

It is interesting to note that the Homeland Security press release of a possible attack on the NYC rail system came just hours before the Indian attack began, so, apparently many knew that something was about to happen...

It appears everyone was a target. This is a media event. Terrorists use the media as a tool. Notice how even the good guys we're packing the AK-47?

The latest information is that 2 Americans are confirmed as killed.

MUMBAI, India (CNN) -- The bodies of five hostages have been found at a Jewish center in Mumbai, according to reports, and fighting still rages at a hotel in the city two days after terrorists launched a series of deadly attacks.

Indian army commandos are shown on the rooftop of the Jewish center in Mumbai.

1 of 3 more photos » Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg, the city's envoy for the community, and his wife were among the dead in Chabad House, said Rabbi Zalman Shmotkin, a spokesman for Chabad-Lubavitch International in the United States.

CNN's Indian sister network, CNN-IBN, reported the siege at the Chabad House was close to ending as gunfire and explosions continued to ring out from the building.

Israeli Foreign Ministry official spokesman Haim Hoshen told an Israeli news station five bodies were found.

The death toll from Wednesday's attacks in nine locations was 151 -- including three Germans, two Americans, an Italian, a Briton, an Australian and one Chinese among the at least 15 foreigners killed -- with a further 327 injured. Watch troops shooting at Chabad House »

The killed Americans have been identified as Alan Scherr, 58, and his daughter Naomi, 13, from Virginia. They were visiting India with a meditation group and died at the Oberoi.

I visit India often.

Feels very unstable with so many attacks.
