Anyone ever use a dog nail grinder?

Our dog hates to have her nails trimmed, I did it once or twice. She bled quite a bit once and has never forgotten it. I have to muzzle her to do the job and so does the Vet. Ironically the groomer at the kennel we use can do it without a muzzle but it's hard to work in appts. to fit their schedule and mine and traffic (they're not right up the street). Besides, our dog shakes like crazy in the car thinking she's staying at the kennel.

Just wondered if anyone has used one of these hand held, battery operated nail grinders before. And if they're loud/scary for a dog. Or quick, silent and very easy to use.

Target has one for $20 advertised in the Sunday flyer.

PS - I have used a manual nail file on her nails but it barely does the job and mostly just works her up.

My nieces and nephews own a large dog - I'll ask them, but, the grinder seems 10X better than the old way...

As the commercials state, the old way is painful and damages the nails...

I've wondered about the grinder too. I almost picked one up in petsmart yesterday. Walmart has them too. Our oldest dog is the one that really needs it. You can hear her coming a mile away....click, click. click, click. The other 2 go to a groomer for haircuts so their nails are trimmed there.

My husband says it is, it's the same product that is advertised on TV.

I guess I just don't want to waste $20. Our dog is not very cooperative when it comes to us grooming her. I clearly remember the Vet suggesting we touch her paws every day when we got her, she was 9 weeks old then. I tried but didn't do it as often as 24/7. Now I realize how important it is to do this when they are puppies! If I had pretended to trim, groom and even examine her early on, she wouldn't be so snarky when I try to do it now.

I use a Dremel tool on my pups. It works great and the kit I have came with about 50+ different bits/attachments. You'll find a bajillion other uses for it around the house. Christmas is right around the corner...

It makes noise, but it's not real loud at all.

Great question Mary, I think all of us with pets have wondered about that
Peticure, or similar filer. My dogs nails seems to stay pretty short because of the long
concrete driveway we have, they are always running down it....everytime a leaf blows they run out the doggie dog and down the driveway in attack mode....lol.
I was thinking it would work great for my bunny. I have a hard time with him, and hes
had a few nails fall out because they get too long, and I know that has to be painful. But they are so skinny I am afraid I am always hurting him.

I don't have a dog, but I'm considering getting one of those Pedi Paws claw filing devices for the cats. Of course, 2 of the 5 are skitzy when it comes to machines.

Hmm, I have a dremel, I am going to have to look at the tips that we have, our bearded dragon needs to get his nails clipped and he really squirms like crazy when I try to do them with the reptile clippers and I always end up taking him to the vet to get them done.

I've tried to clip Ernie's nails but his nails are all black and it's really hard to trim them without hitting the quick and making them bleed. I have my vet and the groomer do them. The groomer even made him bleed once.

The Dremel sound like a great idea for me. I've always wanted one anyway.

Dremel actually makes a cordless dog grooming tool as well.

Here's a pic of the cordless and the bits that come with it. Those are the bits I use with my regular Dremel drill when I grind the dogs' nails.

The dog nail trimmer on televisions IS a dremel tool. There is not difference. That's all it is...a Dremel with the sanding cylinder, and a silly plastic guard.

Save the money, just buy a regular dremel kit...it has the sanding cyclinders in it. And then go use it for tons of other great stuff.
