High was 81F here before the cold front. Currently 37F, windy (25 mph gusts), rain (yippee!!!) and thunder.

The dog is not getting her nightly walk! It's raw out there!

no mixed precip? 37 is snow weather especially if the upper atmosphere is colder.

It sounded like sleet when I was in the house, but when I took our Peanut out to do her stuff (silly dog won't go outside without me and won't get off the covered porch if I won't.) So ... I was standing out in the stuff, and it felt like rain.... I'll check again later ... she's not fond of rain and it usually takes several trips...

I imagine the heavier returns are bright-banding from the sleet.

Yup... I think it's sleeting now. We're in NE Austin (under the 'tin' in Austin on that radar) about 10+ miles northeast of UT almost in Pflugerville/

Graupel (also called snow pellets) refers to precipitation that forms when supercooled droplets of water condense on a snowflake, forming a 2–5 mm ball of rime; the snowflake acts as a nucleus of condensation in this process. The term is derived from German Graupel meaning the same. Graupel does not include other frozen precipitation such as snow, hail, ice pellets or diamond dust. The METAR code for graupel is GS.

Ok, I'm in shock. Large white snowflakes are now falling at my house here in SW Austin. The kids (who should be in bed) saw it first. It is snowing. Lucy, put that ball on the tee ... Here I come!!

not me...i got jipped big time. We had about 10 minutes of very light sleet/snow. But I suppose I got what I expected for tonight. Hopefully next week will be the real action

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. OKC and Dallas will probably be getting their fair share of wintry weather next week.

Wow! Good for you portastorm. That is definitely pretty cool to hear that it is snowing all the way down there. Hopefully you guys wind up getting a good dusting so that you can wake up to a rare wintry scene tomorrow morning.

Yup, was snowing here earlier too. I'm also in southwest Austin. My deck and railing are white, and behind that a deep pink rose in bloom. Beeyootiful.

Intellicast radar now shows heavy snow in the Northern and western suburbs of Austin approaching Round Rock and Pflugerville also. Looks like the Hill Country is getting a lot more than a dusting tonight.

I hope the precip gets close enough to Houston. Temps in the city are already hovering around 40 and dropping. Looks like it will be cold enough to support a Wintry mix should the moisture make it this way.
