I didn't know they got that close to houses now. Funny that you were in the garage when the pic was taken.

*OTown runs to google map her address.

Wow, I remember when those were taken. The guy was in a van stopping in front
of each house snapping pics. I thought it was for survey or home property value
for taxes. I remember because we had our gas grill on the trash and alot of yard
waste out there. Real nice they took the picture on a day
when we had a curb full of trash. LOL. Yep, my big ol beasting van takes up most the picture tho.
Well mama you must remember that day too? If you were in the picture.

Okay I just figured out you can swing the and drag the picture to see 360 around
your house. My neighbors are outside the son scratching his head while watching
dad bend over, and they are out at the street so dad has a great butt shot on there.
 I will be searching alot of peoples houses now. This is fun.

I'm not sure if I like having people being able to see my house up close and personal online.

I don't recall anything. I believe the vehicle used to take the pictures has a camera thingy on the roof of the vehicle but i don't remember them stopping to take a pic. I think they just drive slowly.

I just showed hubby and he asked/said the same thing.
He said, I wonder if thats what that van was doing that day?
Yeah they were driving slow and had all kinds of gizmos on it,
but it was pretty clear the camera pointing at our house, but
I think the other stuff was too record/take pics 360, the sky, trees, ect.
Really cool stuff actually.
I was thinking the same thing Stephanie, I don't know if I like people all
up in my business, but you really can't get that close, like to see valuables
and such.

Okay quick search on the vehicles show THIS
That is not what we saw that day. That camera is HUGE.
Now what the heck was the guys in the van doing? lol

You have to live in a little town; they sure don't have street view of my town (yet - I suppose they eventually will hit everywhere!).

As long as it is taken from the public right-of-way, then it is totally legal. However, they are aware of some situations and have blurred some items and images. Interestingly enough, I was checking the street view along the Seawall Road in Galveston, Texas, and many points along that route are now blurred when looking straight ahead.

I have noticed some Government facilities and such blurred in spots around DC and MD where there also government facilities.

I thought this was a great thing and have looked into it as a storm chasing and storm damage assessment tool. It really seems to be a good technology.

I'm not sure what you consider a little town, but the population of her city was over 110,000 as of the 2000 census (4th largest in Louisiana), and I think it's grown quite a bit since Katrina and Rita. Also, Beaumont's was more than that and I checked out a bunch of houses and businesses on there and they had street view. It's really pretty cool, although kinda creepy as well.

Maybe you live in the little town and that's why they don't have street view of it yet. :P

I wasn't clear; I did mean that I live in a small town; less than 2000 people; Google street view will probably take decades to get to us LOL.
