Correct.

2. An unexpected winner will be announced in the US Presidential race.

Define 'unexpected'. At that time, an Obama win WAS unexpected. Correct.

3. There will be a major weather-related disaster, costing thousands of lives and billions of dollars, in the Western Hemisphere (North/South America/Caribbean).

Unfortunately correct, see Haiti and its hurricane problems.

4. A new record will be set by a tropical cyclone.

Technically correct; Fay set a record for landfalls on FL.

5. A general election will be called in Britain.

Did not happen.

4 out of 5.

I'd use Chase Utley's quote but......

Status of my predictions for 2008:

1) The Phillies will once again go to the NL Divisional playoffs.
World Series Champions
2) The 2008 football season will see the Eagles return to the playoffs.
Uh, no way... -- EDIT - YEAH, WAY!!!! :D
3) There will be two major snow events for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast during January and February.
Snowy in Northeast, nothing big in Mid-Atlantic
4) Drought conditions will eaze a bit for the Southeast as La Nina loses her grip. The Southeast won't be totally out of the drought situation. A tropical system from the Gulf of Mexico in August will help.
Good summary of August; viewtopic.php?f=31&t=103304
Only one close - Hanna but beginning of September and not a major. The drought in the Southeast didn't get any worse and has received more precipitation to help ease it.

5) A Democrat will win the Presidency.
Barack Obama, Democrat elected as President.
6) The economy will be either in or close to a recession for the first 6 months of the year.
It was and still is....
7) Gasoline prices will remain where they are now with seasonal fluctuations.
Through July and then they fell.
8) A major heat wave will affect the megalopolis of Washington DC - Boston during July. Blackouts can happen.
Actually happened a month earlier - no major blackouts;

A few more:

9) More jail time will be doled out to big name athletes due to the steriod abuse investigations, especially now that Marion Jones has been sentenced.
None for steriods
10) The US-Mexican border fence will not go through as planned due to cost issues. More patrols will be setup instead.
Remains to be seen.
11) Amnesty to illegal immigrants now in the country will be granted ONLY IF they register with US Immigration within a specified time period.
Remains to be seen.
12) The Atlantic City casino industry will see a year of flat or slightly negative revenue growth due once again to competition to surrounding slot parlors and the economy.
It has been all negative due to the above circumstances.

So-so in the predictions for 2008.
