It kinda came out of nowhere thanks to an extremely difficult forecast, but we had a rare January tornado outbreak in the Midwest.
Nearly 50 tornadoes that day and night (with about 30 in the Springfield, MO area alone), with 4 deaths. One of the other tornadoes (a strong EF3) was all the way up in Wisconsin!

At least 2008 ended with pretty much a whimper tornado-wise.
