Movies that make you cry

#1 Postby CajunMama » Sun Nov 23, 2008 7:22 pm

I'm such a softie when it comes to certain movies. I'm sitting here watching My Dog Skip. It's near the end of the movie and just like everytime i watch it tears are streaming down my face and there's a big lump in my throat.

There are others i know that make my cry but i can't think of one right now. What movies make you cry everytime you watch them?

The Shawshank Redemption is one. I'll have to think of more.

A Walk To Remember - it's a chick flic, if you haven't seen it, curl up with some popcorn and a box of tissues!

It's Nicholas Sparks - his books are all good, and now at least 3 made into movies. The others: The Notebook, Time In A Bottle

I CAN'T watch that one.

Others I cry at;

Dancing With Wolves (can't watch that one either)
Glory
Braveheart
On Golden Pond

I'll think of others.

Hmmm-looks like a chic thread to me.. :cheesy:

Seriously though I can't think of a movie I have cried at. And I can guarantee I am a compassionate person and I probably cry easier than most men. Or at least I will admit that I do.

Speaking of tears at a movie - my daughters and I will never forget going to see The Lion King in the theater when it came out. There wasn't a seat available, families were all crammed in together. My girls were 4 and 7. My youngest wanted to sit on my lap at one point so she watched the rest of the movie that way. When Mufasa died, she had huge tears rolling down her face, turned around to look at me and said - "Mommy! Simba's daddy died, that's sooooooo sad!". Several mothers near us turned to Laura and said - awwww, and gave me such sympathetic looks.

It was just one of those moments when it was okay if your kid said something outloud in a crowded movie theater!

I cry at Hallmark commercials. Anything touching makes me cry. The other day I was watching Jack Frost with Michael Keaton and cried my eyes out.

Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies.

The older I get the more sentimental I become. I'm just a big boob.

There really are a lot that have made me cry over the years. Anything that has to do with animals will get me anytime. I hope that "Marley and Me" is a great success, but you won't find me going to the theater to watch it. I'll be a blubbering fool.

I thought of one that still surprises me to this very day:

Star Wars: Episode III, Revenge of the Sith

George made me cry at a Star Wars movie! I cried when Anakin began turning to the dark side, when he killed the younglings, when he killed Mace Windu, when Order 66 went into effect, when Padme realizes Anakin was turning to the dark side and declared he was breaking her heart, he was breaking MINE, when Obi-wan and Anakin fought, when Padme went into labor, and of course died, when her funeral takes place, when Luke and Leia was taken to their new homes.......

I get chills just thinking of those scenes.

Never expected to cry at a Star Wars movie! You knew Anakin had to turn into Darth Vader. But on some level you didn't want him to. But the story was written long ago and had to go that way......

When I took my youngest daughter to see the R. of the Sith, she cried too and looked over at me when Order 66 takes place, saying - Mom, this movie is so sad!

But that's just one very sad movie, if you're a Star Wars fan......

Batman and Robin, the lame puns and bad acting bring tears to my eyes.

I just watched the notebook. I was bawling my eyes out. My daughter didn't warn me that it would make you cry so much.

Steph - re: M & M, you would not be alone if you went to see Marley & Me. I ran into so many women near my age in the restroom afterwards, trying to repair makeup, etc. They were also dressed very nice (we went to a trendy theater near a lot of clubs and restaurants when my daughters and I went). As if they were going out to dinner. Many said they couldn't believe how much they cried! My daughters kept looking at me and chuckling. I kept saying - oh you two shut up! But all I had to say was - this will be Hope someday - and then they teared up too. Our dog turns 9 in February! We cherish every day with her, she seems so healthy but we know it could turn on a dime (my BIL's golden suddenly died last fall, just stopped eating for about a day and half, then he was gone in the morning already, we were all so sad). Anyway, Marley & Me - cute movie. I almost forgot who the movie stars were in it too, I focused on the dog. And Alan Arkin is great as a grouchy but lovable boss. But the real star is Marley (or the 20+ Labs they used to film the movie).

So don't be embarrassed to go. You won't be the only one who cried. I've heard men are crying!

My daughter, grandaughter and I went to see Marley and Me the day after Christmas. OMG, I sobbed at the end. I was so glad that I had stashed lots of Kleenex in my purse. The woman next to me had none and she was so thankful when I offered her some of mine. It was one of those cries that you try to hold in the sobbing until your throat and neck start to hurt. LOL

I felt better after I talked to a couple GUYS who read the book and cried. Good movie.

Can we put a warning in the thread title like: "SPOILER: THE DOG DIES IN MARLEY AND ME"?

That's been known. The book's been out for years and shouldn't come as a surprise. In fact i think there's an old thread on it if this ol' brain of mine is remembering correctly.
