After the war they were quick to beg the world for forgiveness for the sins of their countrymen, and deeply ashamed of their own complicity. The Hitler Youth on the other hand was made of children who came of age during the 30s and 40s and swore deep loyalty to Hitler during that time. I wonder what ever happened to that generation of Germans. I'm told that once they were shown that it was all propoganda and falsehoods, they came around as well. I don't know. When you talk to Germans today there is only one opinion of WWII, which is one of deep regret. But I wonder where those German SS Youth who ratted on their own parents for being Jewish sympathizers are today and how they really feel about the whole thing.

I hope the Muslim world can be rehabilitated in the same way, someday. Because if that can't be done, and 1 billion children truly believe this fundamentalist crap not because they were told to, but because that's the way they feel in their hearts....then Earth is doomed.

At the very least there would be another world war, World War III, if extremism continues at its current rate.
It is fair to say that Earth would have major problems, potentially catastrophic, if extremism is not stopped.
With terrorists getting angrier and angrier and killing and brainwashing more and more people,
a third major world war seems more and more likely, very sadly for humanity.

If we do have WWIII maybe we'll do it right this time and wipe out the Human Race and give the Earth a chance to start over without us-can't possibly do worse than it has with us on board.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stood within Hamas rocket range Monday and warned Islamic militants that they face an "iron fist" unless they agree to Israeli terms for an end to war in the Gaza Strip. Hamas showed no signs of wavering, however, with its leader, Ismail Haniyeh, saying the militants were "closer to victory."

Sometimes I think the same way. Just let the animals, trees, etc. co-exist on earth so it doesn't get screwed up again.

Carnage is catastrophic. Deaths approaching 1000 (900 as of CNN a few
moments ago). Violence shows no sign of abating- we are looking at
serious carnage on a scale that the word "catastrophic" is not
brutal enough to describe.

catastrophic is overstating the situation by a factor of about 1,000

lest we forget that during WW2, death tolls from SINGLE AIR RAIDS often exceeded 20,000. Far more died during the opening days of both Iraq wars

in the grand scheme of things, what we are seeing is minor in comparison

Wouldn't even classify it as carnage. What's happening is a direct consequence of a group of people failing to understand either the consequences of electing who they did as their leaders and failing to understand the issues involved in a rational way. HAMAS represents fanaticism and cultism and the Palestinians stupidly believed the rhetoric and put those bloodthirsty characters in charge and so now must suffer the consequences of their stupidity.

Hamas wont stop fight until Israel withdraws from Gaza

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Israel's chief negotiator will go to Egypt for "decisive" talks on a cease-fire with Hamas, officials said Tuesday, as the sound of battles between Israeli troops and Palestinian militants rang out in the crowded streets of Gaza City.

With international outrage mounting over the toll on Gaza's civilians, Israel's decision to send Defense Ministry official Amos Gilad to Egypt on Thursday could be a signal of progress. Gilad had postponed the trip for days.

Diplomatic efforts to end 18 days of fighting have moved slowly, in part because of the wide gaps between Israel and Hamas, who do not negotiate directly.

Israel says it will push forward with the offensive until Hamas ends all rocket fire on southern Israel, and there are guarantees the Iranian-backed militant group will stop smuggling weapons into Gaza through the porous Egyptian border.

Hamas has said it will only observe a cease-fire if Israel withdraws from Gaza.

Is this guy still alive?

Osama bin Laden Urges Jihad against Israel

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden called for a jihad against Israel in a new audiotape posted Wednesday, a recording the White House called an effort to raise money as part of the terror organization's ongoing propaganda campaign.

In a message aimed at stoking anger in the Middle East over Israel's Gaza offensive, bin Laden urged Muslims to attack Israel and condemned Arab governments as allies of the Jewish state.

National Security spokesman Gordon Johndroe said the tape a display of bin Laden's "isolation."

Venezuela, Bolivia break diplomatic ties with Israel

CARACAS (AFP) — Venezuela and Bolivia broke diplomatic ties with Israel over its deadly military offensive in the Gaza Strip and refusal to comply with international calls for a ceasefire, their leftist governments said.

"The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in accordance with its vision of world peace, in solidarity and respect for human rights, has decided to definitively break diplomatic ties with Israel," a government statement said.

Caracas said it made its decision due to the "cruel persecution of the Palestinian people directed by Israeli authorities."

"Israel has systematically ignored United Nations (ceasefire) calls, repeatedly and unashamedly violating approved resolutions ... and placing itself increasingly outside international law," the statement added.

Israel's "repugnant attack on the civilian population (in Gaza) is a perfect example of Israel's repeated used of state terrorism ... (against) the weak and innocent: children, women and the elderly."

On January 5, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez expelled Israel's ambassador from Caracas, winning him hero status among Palestinians.

Venezuela's decision to cut ties with Israel came just hours after Bolivian President Evo Morales announced his government was breaking diplomatic relations with the Jewish state.

Morales, a socialist like Chavez, said his government was responding to Israel's "grave attacks on human life and humanity."

Morales told a group of diplomats in the administrative capital of La Paz that he planned to ask the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, to bring human rights abuse charges against Israel.

Bolivian Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca told reporters that the diplomatic break with Israel "will in no way affect" its burgeoning bilateral trade with Bolivia, but was merely intended to prod Israel into resuming talks with the Palestinians.

Choquehuanca also said he expected the UN General Assembly meeting Thursday in New York to take a "firm stance" against Israel's military offensive in Gaza that has left more than 1,000 Palestinians dead, including some 400 civilians.

Morales' diplomatic announcement on Israel came shortly after he received a letter from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad asking him to support an international agreement to resolve the Gaza crisis.

Iranian Cooperation Minister Mohammad Abbasi disclosed to reporters the contents of Ahmadinejad's letter after he met with the Bolivian president.

Morales said he would also report Israeli President Shimon Peres to the International Criminal Court, and ask that the premier's 1994 Nobel Peace prize be revoked.

"Mr. Perez must also be charged ... since he has done nothing to stop the criminal behavior of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his government but, on the contrary, has justified the criminal actions against the Palestinians in Gaza."

Most Latin American governments have been critical of Israel's attack on the Gaza Strip that began on December 27 in retaliation for rockets launched by Palestinian militants from the tiny coastal strip on southern Israel.

The offensive has sparked widespread concern about a humanitarian crisis breaking out in one of the world's most densely populated places, where the vast majority of the 1.5 million residents depends on foreign aid.

Israel declares unilateral cease-fire

JERUSALEM – Israel declared a unilateral cease-fire in its 22-day offensive that turned Gaza neighborhoods into battlegrounds and dealt a stinging blow to the Islamic militants of Hamas, but the government said its troops will stay in the Palestinian territory for now.

Shortly before top leaders voted for the cease-fire at an emergency security meeting, Hamas threatened to keep fighting until Israeli troops leave Gaza.

"Our goals as they were set at the beginning of the operation were fully realized, and even more than that," Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said after the 12-member Security Cabinet voted to halt the assault.

"Hamas was hit hard, in its military arms and in its government institutions," Olmert said. "If the fire stops entirely, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) will weigh pulling out of Gaza at a time that befits us. If not, the IDF will continue to act to defend our residents."

More than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed since the Israeli offensive began on Dec. 27, according to Palestinian and U.N. officials. At least 13 Israelis have also died.

The offensive will stop at 2 a.m. local time (7 p.m. EST), Olmert said.
