The tropics seem quiet.

Although the Caribbean is plenty warm enough for tropical cyclone formation, shear looks rather unfavorable.

However, while DFW has plain light rain with temps barely above freezing, Fort Worth, Dallas-Love, Abilene, San Angelo and Wichita Falls all reporting winter precipitation, mostly freezing rain, but a couple of snow reports NW of DFW.

Fear not, it won't be long before we get a "2009 Storm Cancel"....given that things are quiet in the tropics 21 weeks before the season starts...

If a storm were to form now, that would be downright historic...we'd be saying "Offseason cancel!"

The Atlantic Basin remains quiet.

No suggestion of tropical cyclone development on the Canadian model (from the FSU Experimental Tropical Cyclone Genesis model page)

Nice cold season inverted trough off Texas though. On the PSU model page, you can see that is throwing some rainfall back into a Canadian airmass over Texas, and perhaps the fringes will be cold or dry enough to allow some scattered winter precip around Waco or Tyler.

That meeting should be the most interesting in many years. There are only 2 sure-fire retirements (Gustav and Ike) but as many as 7 names have at least an outside chance.
