Re: Southern Plains winter storm thread
The freeze has finally pushed through Grayson County. There's a very light glaze on the railings, trees, and cars. But nothing falling from the sky currently. Give the grass and the streets some time to freeze up...and then everything that falls after that is going to result in net accumulations.

Still gotta wait for our main stuff to come this evening. I don't know if i can wait much longer. I'm so tired I might just fall asleep before then.

No kidding.

You guys always get the good stuff up in the I-44 corridor.
By "good", I mean interesting.

Just looked outside, it's hard to tell but it might actually be snowing, tiny tiny tiny flurries. I would say it was just freezing drizzle, but the way it's falling is different and it's easier to spot then it should be. I don't know if there is any way to tell for sure though.

I've been seeing that off and on since about 5 this morning. It won't amount to anything except a glaze if it's below freezing.

I'm in Olney, IL we've got over 5 inches on the ground, have sleet mixed with snow and a heavy snow band heading this way. This is really something to see. Haven't seen snow like this since I left home in '81.

Re:
I would say a mix. There is a lot of sleet, but a few flakes are visible from time to time too.southerngale wrote:EWG, are you getting snow or sleet now, or a mix? NWS OKC is reporting light snow.

Pretty sure that it is snow flurries, coming down a little harder now and they look pretty darn white to me. Most cars are now glazed with ice.
Alright there is no denying it now, it is deff. snow. It's coming down pretty good but it's still small flakes, looks pretty neat blowing in the wind.

I just saw lightning.
Darker clouds are rolling in. This might be the beginning of the much-anticipated main event here along the Red River.

Missouri - just took a look at map of roads. Keep in mind, the southern half is not an area with of lot of SNOWPLOW capability, and besides, this is sleet, ice, and snow, very heavy stuff! Check out interstate 55, 70, 44 - covered. Down in the bootheel, powerlines are down over roads.

Yeah, it's getting worse here, it's just weird though, we're barely getting any freezing drizzle, it's mostly snow. The roofs are starting to get a dusting....odd stuff.

Things are coming to an end here on the southeast side of OKC. We have a good 1-3" of snow/sleet on the ground with isolated drifts up to 3-4". There are also some plow and shovel piles that are as high as 6+". All of the ice/snow is making for a very wintry landscape this evening!

How lucky for you both 200 miles north of me and 70 miles south of me! (and you Houstonians and Louisianans 400 miles to my south)
So far I'd say I've got about 1/10" of ice accumulation on the tops of the railings, but they're solidly coated all the way around, with an uneven surface noting the precip is freezing instantaneously. I'm going to take the dog outside and investigate a little farther.
Everything is very shiny, but I don't see any white stuff....
