Whooo-Hooooo!

The angry foul-mouthed English guy and his game show to pick the best chef is back on.

Have to use my Comcast DVR, however, as "Destroyed in Seconds" is also on in that time slot, along with "The Office".

Speaking of-

do Americans enjoy angry and/or obnoxious English people?

The angry cursing chef?
Simon on "American idol"
the now cancelled abusive red haired woman on "Weakest Link"?

Maybe all English people are like that...

A really change of pace type episode if you ask me. Definitely worth watching in case you missed it or want to watch it again. They introduced a character who was supposed to be in back storylines all along, even before the show began - a very kind neighborhood handyman. So they flashed back to before the show started, to 5 years ago, to where that last season ended - are you with me still? LOL - and to the present, approx. 2014. How he impacted all of their lives, for the better. It was just a really clever and poignant episode!

Just wanted to share....

I just watched it on tape. This DH episode was a fantastic and very moving episode of an excellent series. I'd be lying if I said my eyes stayed dry. The amazing thing is how the writers were able to achieve that with a brand new character!

By the way, this is one of the very few prime time series I watch regularly. I didn't even attempt to watch a single episode the first few years because of the title. I didn't think they were even trying to appeal to male viewers. I watched a couple of episodes a couple of years ago more or less by accident rather than through a planned viewing. Needless to say, I now make every effort to avoid missing even a single episode. As a male, others have told me to keep my love for the show to myself...that it could negatively reflect on me. However, I simply can't hide my enjoyment of it.

Not to worry Larry. We won't tell a soul!! I loved DH when it first started, then grew tired of it and now am back watching on a semi regular basis at least. I think this year has been better than some of the last few(am I giving myself away here?). I too would lie if I said my eyes are always dry during this or some other shows. I have never seen it as a weakness, but have been told it is a sign of a strong compassionate man. That is the role I choose as as opposed to being called weak for caring.
I still think Fringe ROCKS THE PLANET! Buh bye "Life on Mars".

Why all the Life on Mars hate? :(

Well, fortunately, the sequel to the British version (the original) Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes, is coming to BBC America in March

What an interesting detour this topic took. And it's all your fault Larry! LOL Just kidding around, ya know....;-)!!!

Sometimes I know an excellent new show will premiere but I have so many to watch that I'm dedicated to, that I skip it. I'm sure Fringe is a great show. I've heard Life on Mars is also excellent. I just don't have time for all these shows!

When Grey's Anatomy premiered I was and still watching ER (I'll watch until the very end). So I said, one medical drama is enough for me right now. Sometimes I know I've missed out on not watching Grey's Anatomy....oh well.

One show I wish now I had watched when it premiered was Will & Grace. I don't know why we didn't watch it, but my daughters and I quickly caught up with reruns and now can declare we've watched every, excellent episode. But I should have watched that show, way back when.......oh well, win some, lose some. But at least we did eventually watch a few episodes and LOVED it! Especially......Jack. What a riot he is.

Anyway, the discussion about British shows, I agree, there is a difference. We're huge fans of the US version of the Office in this family. So naturally we rented the UK version. It was quite different, in terms of humor. Similar office setting, well doh. But the humor! Took some getting used to but we eventually declared we liked the UK version as well as the US version. My person favorite UK Office episode, was Series 1, Episode 4: Training Day. Hilarious, sneak up on you episode!

TV Ratings: Thursday 'Idol' Cooks Up a Win
'American Idol,' 'Hell's Kitchen' premiere hold off CBS

January 30, 2009

Fast National ratings for Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009

A Thursday edition of "American Idol" carried FOX to a ratings win for the night, while giving a decent launch to the new season of " Hell's Kitchen."

FOX averaged a 10.1 rating/16 share in primetime, which was enough to beat CBS, 8.7/13, for the lead. ABC finished third but was well behind the leaders at 4.1/7. NBC, 3.1/5, came in fourth, and The CW trailed with 2.4/4.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 7.0 rating doubled the 3.5 for second-place CBS. NBC grabbed third with a 1.9, followed by ABC, 1.8, and The CW, 1.7.

The final audition episode of "Idol" drew a 13.7/21 for FOX at 8 p.m. A "Criminal Minds" rerun on CBS snagged second with a 5.9/9. The CW's " Smallville," 2.6/4, finished third in total viewers and adults 18-49, even though NBC's "My Name Is Earl" and "Kath & Kim" and ABC's "Ugly Betty" had slightly higher household ratings.

CBS moved into the lead at 9 p.m. with " CSI," 12.1/19. The season premiere of "Hell's Kitchen" scored a 6.5/10 for FOX and came within a few tenths of CBS in the 18-49 demo. A "Grey's Anatomy" rerun on ABC drew a 4.0/6, edging repeats of "The Office" and "30 Rock" on NBC. "Supernatural" scored a 2.2/3 for The CW.

" Eleventh Hour," 8.1/14, kept CBS on top at 10 p.m. "Private Practice" drew a 5.4/9 for ABC, while an "ER" repeat on NBC posted a 3.1/5.

Maybe all English people are like that...

The odd thing about this list is all these shows are British in origin. . .

ETA:
Kitchen Nightmares got it's start in Britian, with British and the occasional Continental restaurants. . .re-runs on BBC America . . . I like this version better. . . a lot more cursing from the chef and owners of the restaurants . .. what annoys me about the American show is they all take place for the most in New England (New York, New Jersey etc. .) . . . .I mean, there are restaurants in Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, and. . I don't know . . .Seattle or Chicago. . at least I think so. . .

American Idol is the American spin-off of Pop Idol UK and I think there is Europe-wide version. . . mildly amusing . . .Simon and the one of the producers, also named Simon, is involved with Pop Idol UK too. re-runs available the nearest illegal dowload site near you.. ..

The abusive host of the Weakest Link was the abusive host of the original verison on the BBC.. ..

FYI to anyone watching Kyle XY on ABCFamily.....it's been cancelled. 3 more episodes to air.

Another sci-fi, suspense type drama left hanging up in the air.......ugh.

I know this show isn't anywhere near the same as Jericho or other shows were (caliber wise) but my daughter got me started on this show and I would have liked to see where the storylines were going.....

Okay, you know you're old when you're trying to stay awake waiting for the Office one hour episode, post Super Bowl, to start and it's past 10:30 at that point. And you realize it's a one hour episode, that you'd be watching live (and recording, of course.....lol).

You do the math and decide sleep wins out.

Then you go online today and read how AWESOME that episode was!

Now I have to wait until after 6 pm tonight to watch it, promised my husband I wouldn't watch it without him.

And truthfully, I half wondered how good it would be. Thought it would be more hype than great comedy. Boy was I ever wrong! (if I can trust what I'm reading online).

Dang, wish we had stayed up......should have made a cup of strong tea or something! LOL And here I told my husband, no one's going to be talking about that episode at work tomorrow..... Yikes - he's gonna be mad! LOL

So, did anyone here catch it? (and I did some snooping, shouldn't have I know but I just have to say this - the father of Karen's baby better not be Jim!)

TV Ratings: Super Night for NBC Sunday
Super Bowl falls a bit from last year's record but still draws massive ratings

February 2, 2009

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009

The Super Bowl proved itself immune from the downward ratings trend on TV this season, drawing an enormous audience to NBC on Sunday.

Early indications are that ratings for Super Bowl XLIII will be off a little from last year's game, but as the 2008 Super Bowl set all-time records, a little bit of slippage was expected. NBC averaged a 35.0 rating/54 share in primetime, averaging just under 79 million viewers. Those numbers will change some when final nationals become available later in the day. (NBC notes The Game drew a 42.1 rating in metered markets, on par with the 2006 and 2007 games.)

CBS' 3.1/5 led the other networks for the night, beating ABC's 2.4/4. FOX averaged 1.5/2 and The CW 0.4/1.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, NBC scored a 29.9 rating for the evening. ABC was the best of the also-rans at 1.4, followed by FOX at 1.0. CBS and The CW both failed to crack the 1.0 barrier.

The Super Bowl drew a 40.8/63 at 7 p.m. A rerun of "America's Funniest Home Videos" led the rest of the pack at 2.3/4, beating the 2.1/3 for "CBS Reports." FOX went with a repeat of "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?," while The CW aired "Jericho."

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals drew a 38.0/57 at 8 p.m. CBS moved up to second with a "Cold Case" rerun, 3.2/5, while ABC scored a 2.3/3 with "Wipeout." Reruns of "The Simpsons" and "American Dad" combined for a 1.5/2 on FOX. The movie "Throw Momma from the Train" ran on The CW.

At 9 p.m., the Super Bowl scored a 38.2/56. "The Unit" delivered a 2.6/4 for CBS, while ABC held fairly steady with more "Wipeout." FOX improved to 2.1/3 with "Family Guy" and a second "American Dad." The CW concluded its movie.

NBC fell to 23.2/38 at 10 p.m. with the final minutes of the Super Bowl, about 20 minutes of post-game coverage and the start of "The Office." A repeat of "The Mentalist" posted a 4.5/7 for CBS, while ABC's "Wipeout Bowl" came in at 2.8/5.

TV Ratings: CBS and FOX Split Monday
3-D 'Chuck' posts season high numbers for NBC

February 3, 2009

Fast National ratings for Monday, Feb. 2, 2009

CBS and FOX waged a tight ratings battle Monday night, with each network claiming a share of victory.

CBS grabbed the biggest total audience with an 8.3 rating/13 share among households and 13.27 million viewers. FOX was close behind at 7.7/11 and 13.02 million viewers. ABC, 6.1/9, came in third. The return of NBC's regular Monday lineup drew a 5.2/8, and The CW trailed with a 1.7/3.

FOX led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 4.6, beating out CBS' 4.3. ABC's 3.7 was good for third, followed by NBC at 3.3. The CW earned a 1.2.

"House," 8.7/13, put FOX on top at 8 p.m. "The Big Bang Theory," 6.7/10, and "How I Met Your Mother," 6.2/9, gave CBS a slim lead over ABC's "The Bachelor" in viewers, even though the latter had a slightly better household rating. A 3-D episode of "Chuck" scored a 4.9/7 for NBC, its best showing of the season. "Gossip Girl" delivered a 1.7/2 for The CW.

CBS moved in front at 9 p.m. with "Two and a Half Men," 10.1/15, and "Worst Week," 6.4/9. "The Bachelor" improved to 7.2/11 in its second hour, narrowly beating FOX's "24" (6.6/10) for second place. "Heroes" returned to a 5.2/8 on NBC, while "One Tree Hill" held steady for The CW.

"CSI: Miami," 10.2/17, easily won the 10 p.m. hour for CBS. The season premiere of "Medium" scored a 5.5/9 for NBC, and "True Beauty" came in at 4.5/7 for ABC.

I don't think J.J. Abrams likes planes much... created Lost, which is about plane crash survivors, and Fringe, where now 2 planes have crashed in 13 episodes. Tonight was    That opening scene was the freakiest thing ever.

'Fringe' scores its best post-'Idol' ratings

February 4, 2009

Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009

FOX rolled to another ratings victory Tuesday, with "Fringe" grabbed its best ratings yet behind "American Idol."

FOX drew an 11.2 rating/17 share for the night, beating CBS, 8.7/13, by a pretty comfortable margin. NBC took third with a 6.6/10. ABC was a pretty distant fourth at 3.5/5, and The CW came in at 1.4/2.

The adults 18-49 demographic also went to FOX, whose 7.5 rating was almost double the 3.9 for second-place NBC. CBS, 2.9, finished third, followed by ABC, 2.0, and The CW, 1.0.

The first show of "American Idol's" Hollywood round scored a 14.8/22 at 8 p.m. "NCIS" put CBS in second with an 8.9/13. "The Biggest Loser: Couples" drew a 5.6/8 for NBC. "Homeland Security USA" was fourth for ABC, while The CW got a 1.6/2 from "90210."

Just a note: President Obama will have a news conference Monday at 8pm ET for probably close to an entire hour. All four networks will almost certainly cover it, though not sure how the schedules will be affected yet. NBC is pre-empting Chuck, CBS is pre-empting How I Met Your Mother and airing a new Big Bang Theory at 9:30 after Two and a Half Men. ABC will likely shift The Bachelor to 9-11 and FOX will likely pre-empt House.

TV Ratings: 'Idol' Hands FOX a Wednesday Win
Otherwise quiet night means little competition for FOX

February 5, 2009

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009

With main competitor CBS resting its two dramas Wednesday, FOX had little trouble in sewing up a big ratings win for the night.

FOX averaged an 11.4 rating/18 share in primetime, more than doubling the audience for No. 2 CBS, 5.2/8. NBC, 4.5/7, finished third in households, but ABC, 4.4/7, had more total viewers. The CW registered a negligible 0.7/1.

The story was similar in the adults 18-49 demographic, where FOX's 7.3 rating leading the field by a wide margin. ABC finished second at 2.8. CBS and NBC tied for third at 1.9, and The CW was well back at 0.4.

"American Idol" ruled the 8 p.m. hour with a 14.9/23. A "Criminal Minds" rerun on CBS took second with a 5.7/9. NBC's "Knight Rider," 3.2/5, edged a repeat of last week's "Lost," 3.1/5, for third. The CW aired a "Privileged" rerun.

FOX stayed on top at 9 p.m. with "Lie to Me," 7.8/12. ABC moved up to second with "Lost," 6.4/10, and tied FOX for the 18-49 lead for the hour. A Katie Couric Grammy Awards special on CBS drew a 4.6/7. The return of "Life" to NBC was close behind at 4.3/7. The CW finished its evening with a "90210" repeat.

At 10 p.m., "Law & Order" (5.8/10) grabbed the lead for NBC. A "CSI: NY" rerun on CBS scored a 5.1/9, while "Life on Mars" earned a 3.7/6 for ABC.
