I hope that line slows down some and weakens a bit, but not too much, we are about 10 cm behind in rainfall just for 2009.

The edge of the squall line is around Cotulla, Texas - only about 60 miles from the Mexican border and in an area with less than 5% wind threat. (Although given the situation that was probably appropriate - this is just an odds-defier)

Daily Oklahoman Web site now reporting three dead in Lone Grove. Also reporting that emergency crews are using heavy equipment to rescue trapped people.

Edit: I don't know if that is a isolated incident or is a widespread problem.

KOCO also reporting up to 50 people hurt.

KOKO blog...

10:05 p.m. We have been able to confirm that three are dead and up to 50 hurt in the southern Oklahoma tornado tonight. I’m not sure until what time I’ll be liveblogging tonight, but I do know you’ll want to get the latest on Eyewitness News 5 In The Morning starting at 5 a.m.

Bad, but in a trailer park, could have been worse. Of course, if your son or daughter or husband is one of the dead, 'could have been worse' is meaningless.

Also remember that initial damage assessments are often way off the mark, especially when crews respond in darkness.

Tomorrow morning will reveal the full extent of damage. If it is very severe in LG, could see fatality count go up.

EDIT: Local KXII-TV is reporting many dazed people in the Lone Grove area at the command post. The other local TV station, KTEN, is reporting a good number of damaged buildings with some destroyed.

At night, power flashes are as good an indication one will get of a likely tornado. I did see transformer flashes minutes before our lights quit during Ike, not a tornado, but same principle.

Yep, sure are Ed.

For that matter, they were a pretty good indicator of the rain wrapped tornado today near Edmond. I was watching in fascination as the TV chopper showed the tornado traveling along with multiple power flashes occurring.

I've seen transformers flash as well as high tension wires spark as a tornado went thru this area a couple years ago at night. One of the best indicators..plus watching for them in lightning flashes if possible.

Interesting how DFW puts out thunderstorm warnings for nearly every county, and San Antonio just puts out one LONG one :)

Interesting story coming out of the Lone Grove tornado.

KXII chief meterologist Steve LaNore was recounting to folks a minute ago an on-air conversation he was having with the station's storm spotter (Doug ???). LaNore said that after some time of not seeing anything tornadic, the storm spotter was approaching Lone Grove while chasing the storm.

All of a sudden, in a lightning flash, he reported back with shock "Oh my God, a large tornado is on the ground!"

Terrible, terrible news. :(

KXII-TV in Sherman has a reporter on the scene reporting nine dead in Lone Grove, Okla. His source was a nearby police chief on the scene helping in rescue efforts.
