There is a brief still shot of the Lone Grove tornado on KXII.com as it moved about in a lightning flash. It's on the video segment that says "Lone Grove Hit By Tornado."

So far, that's the only photo or video I'm aware of even though there were a few chasers after the storm.

According to KXII-TV in Sherman, the death toll in the Lone Grove, Okla. tornado is now nine.

The Daily Oklahoman says that fatality report comes from the Carter County sheriff who said that a hospitalized tornado victim died yesterday at a Dallas hospital.

Not to take away from the tragedy, but SPC and CrazyC83 had this event predicted 6 days before hand. SPC long lead time severe forecasting seems to be a reality.

Most damage in DFW and surrounding areas attributed to straight-line, microburst winds. However, an EF1 caused damage in NE Tarrant Country in Colleyville.

I agree Ed, it was well predicted - kudos to CrazyC83 and SPC.

And I believe the folks in Lone Grove had about 15 minutes of lead time warning if I remember correctly from some of the news reports. NWS appeared to have it covered in their warnings.

It was also extremely well covered and pinpointed by KXII-TV meterologist Steve LaNore and his in-the-field storm spotter (this TV station is based out of Sherman/Denison/Ardmore).

The only thing I was surprised at was that there wasn't more storm chaser footage. I know it was at night, but I have yet to see a video of this tornado only one still pic.

what I find to hard to understand is why people chose to stay in their homes. if I tornado was coming I'd get the hell out.

Because people feel safer and more secure in their home. When you are sacred you find the one thing that will keep you most comfortable in any situation and when it comes to storms, people tend to see their home as that safe shelter. Some homes are good, while others aren't good for any form of severe weather.

Are there any reports of damage in Garland? We have friends that say there was a tornado a couple of blocks from them in Garland, but I have seen no mention of any kind of damage in Garland.

I haven't seen anything officially reported. I haven't been watching the local news this week, so don't know if they may have said anything. You'd think the NWS would be all over it though.

With only minutes of warning, at night, not at all sure you'd be better off in a car, which, like a trailer, is light enough to be picked up or flipped in even a relatively weak tornado.

No trailer park in Oklahoma should be allowed to operate without an underground shelter, IMHO.

My thoughts exactly, but I know these people well enough to know they have no reason to lie. My guess is that this occurred near one of their places of work and was misinterpreted by the messenger(our daughter).

Here's what I can tell you of that storm that might shed some light on what may have been misinterpreted. I live in Rockwall County, very near the NW corner. When the storm was west of us near Garland/Rowlett(eastern Dallas county), local station WFAA showed an upper-level shear marker on the radar heading in our general direction. The shear marker continued over my area, but it was a single upper-level marker with no indication of low-level circulation. It was windy and wild as the storm passed, but what I saw was wind from only the westerly direction with nothing unusual about it. As the storm passed us, the radar then showed a mid-level shear marker as it got into Hunt county. And as the NWS report states, there was damage reported in Greenville, which is in Hunt.

They know what they are looking for when they search for tornado damage. It would be scattered around in different directions, not just one direction. (Alternatively, if there is visual evidence, they would call it a tornado either way)
