Winter Storm Warning for SE Arizona

#1 Postby Aslkahuna » Mon Feb 09, 2009 7:54 pm

A Winter Storm warning has been issued by Tucson NWS for SE Arizona from 7 PM tonight to 11 AM tomorrow morning. Snowlevels are expected to drop as low as 2200 feet which will put snow in all of Tucson as well as all of Santa Cruz, Cochise, Greenlee and Graham Counties. Snowfall is expected to range from 1-3 inches below 3500 feet, 3-5 inches from 3500-5000 feet, 5-11 inches from 5000 to 7000 feet and well over 12 inches above 7000 feet. If this happene, chances are I-10 east of Tucson will be closed at Texas Canyon which is treacherous with any amount of snow or ice due to steep grades and curves. Other major highways are likely to be closed as well.

I don't know much about tucson but what is your elevation? If there is a wide range of elevation in the city. I'm just curious to see how much snow you could possibly get.

I'm at 2518 feet and it is snowing here right now. The airport and D-M AFB are getting rain. The temperature at the UofA dropped from 49F to 34F in three minutes when the front came through.

It all melted as it fell at the house so we had a Trace-the ground was much too warm and snowfall not heavy enough. However, higher parts of town got about an inch and 2-3 inches fell in the valley area of Cochise and Santa Cruz Counties. Mt. Lemmon got about a foot or so.
