I certainly hope they're closer to your home (than mine) this year. The lower-end Cat 1 winds we experienced across Houston with Ike knocked our power out for 2 weeks and basically ground the city 4th largest city in the U.S. to a halt for weeks after impact. Be careful what you wish for.

Isn't that the truth. Nothing like listening to the sound of nailguns still repairing roof damage in February, much less the interior damage repairs that remains to be started on my side of town. We'll be busy until June it appears on the NW side.

I agree with Wxman here.

Wilma created "only" CAT1 and CAT 2 conditions across a large geographic area of South Florida but was one of the costliest hurricanes ever to hit this country. Many locations in South Florida were without power for 3-4 weeks from 100mph winds. I could not even imagine major hurricane force winds across metro South Florida and the damage that would result.

Even a CAT 1 hurricane can create major damage especially if it hits a large metro area where the chances are higher of creating damage to man-made structures.

Ouch. In that case I'll tone it down to a 40-50 mph TS that is otherwise
pretty weak sorta like 2006 Alberto

I will admit that
some of my storm chaser fascinations with extreme weather may
lead to a sub conscious and unintended bias for extreme weather interpretations or events, as well as a mental
denial of the consequences endured by some of those
weather events- though I am certainly aware of
the mass suffering casued by Ike....

Don't you wish any such thing - since I'm also in the Tampa Bay area and really don't relish any hurricane visiting at all.

We got about cat1 winds here with Jeanne ('04), barely, and the power was off for a week! And hot - was it ever hot, just stifling. Couldn't escape it by going to work as the workplace was closed down. So when I read about the 2 weeks power was off during Ike, and all the mayhem it caused.... no, Tampa Bay Hurricane, don't wish for this.

Season is approaching with each passing day; June will be here before we know it. Wxman57, I look forward to your commentary this Season.

Personally I would take the 100+ mph gusts I experienced during Frances, Jeanne, and Wilma. If I could get that experience w/o the destruction I would, but unfortunately it does not work that way. A 100+ mph wind is awesome to see!

I wouldn't mind a lopsided tropical storm to kick up some surf and get us out of classes for a day. Don't want anymore than that.
