More study needs to be done with this system because they are quite common, apparently.

This one is interesting. I agree I'd like to see more research done on systems like these.

It crossed the southern tip of Italy and has weakened. Shear should finish it off.

Ironic that we finally get what looks to be something in the Med and DanieleItalyRm is nowhere to be found.

Ironic that you are thinking that this system is more interesting than the others I've been reporting for months.
In any case I have been watching this cyclone constantly day and night since its origin, taking many pictures and archiving them just like I usually do with all Mediterranean Systems.
I posted many reports about it on several Italian sites (its not a coincidence that 2 of the images posted by crostorm are my cuts). Italian Members of this site know exactly that I watch all
Mediterranean systems and always report them. If I haven't posted on here this time is just because members on this site haven't shown a great interest in Mediterranean systems, so I
thought it would not be valued.
Ironic that you miss my voice this time..

no doubt, that was a TC or at least an STC
I think the reason why not as many bare interested as because it does not affect them. When Flossie, a cat 4 was threatening Hawaii in 2007, there was more interest in a pathetic disturbance in the GOM

I think the reason for that is because a lot of users on this site live in the Gulf Coast area and are more worried about storms that may affect them as opposed to storms hundreds of miles away.

Whats ironic about one of them actually looking tropical, and not be either sucking in dry air or having a front attached to it?

Which is a shame, because people miss out on alot of interesting systems that occur outside the Atlantic. (Systems like this one, Catarina, and the monsters of the WPAC)

Whats interesting about this one is it was actually pretty long lived as well, lasted a good few days it seems and at times had some really impressive convective coverage. I agree with Derek that seems to be a tropical cyclone.

I have to agree, those pictures leave little doubt.

Re: MED: Subtropical Storm near Sicily/southern Italy
Though quite impressive, I would be hard pressed to call this a tropical cyclone or even a sub-tropical cyclone. The system is likely a vorticity maximum associated with an upper level low over N Italy. If someone were to show me a sounding, and a profiler out of this system, I would be inclined to argue the point. However, I am not at all convinced that this was a "tropical" system.

I have to agree with weatherbee1982.
My section was monitoring this system as it was approaching central/southern Italy. If memory serves me correctly, we were identifying it as a vort max as well.
We had some weather charts saved on this low, but I unable to pull them up at this time.
