Iditarod

As some of you know.....the Iditarod is happening in Alaska. (Iditarod.com) For me this is like the Superbowl or the Olympic alpine downhill. This is the stuff legends are made from......

While most of the lower 48 was sleeping.....Lance Mackey broke a trail record from Takotna to Iditarod last night. 12 hours and 34 minutes which shattered the previous record of 13 hours 12 minutes.

The most amazing thing about this is that Mackey is a cancer survivor.

I watched the Discovery Channel series about last year's race and am following this year's one through the Anchorage Daily News and the official standings. Pretty fascinating stuff.

Lance Mackey wins the Iditarod. Lance now joins the elite club of having won the race 3 times. He dominated the race from the beginning. There was no catching him. An incredible run across the ice pack of Norton Sound with winds reaching 35 mph in sub zero temps closed the deal. Other racers turned around and sought shelter. Mackey pushed on. His comment about the conditions on Norton Sound...."the most difficult run of my entire career".
