TV Ratings: 'American Idol' eliminates Wednesday competition
'Lie to Me' does OK without 'Idol' lead-in, 'Chopping Block' weak
Fast National ratings for Wednesday, March 11, 2009
A double elimination on "American Idol" eliminated any of the suspense in the night's ratings battle, as FOX cruised to a win.
FOX averaged a 10.5 rating/17 share for the night, beating second-place CBS (7.4/12) by more than 6 million viewers. NBC was a distant third at 3.8/6. ABC, 2.7/4, came in fourth, and The CW brought up the rear at 1.9/3.
In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 6.1 rating easily led the night. CBS, 3.1, took second. NBC, 1.8, finished third, followed by ABC, 1.4, and The CW, 1.2.
"Lie to Me," 6.7/11, gave FOX the lead at 8 p.m., pulling down numbers comparable to what it got following "Idol." CBS grabbed second with "The New Adventures of Old Christine," 4.9/8, and "Gary Unmarried," 4.8/8. "America's Next Top Model," 3.0/5, put The CW in third. The premiere of "The Chopping Block" on NBC cooked up a modest 2.9/5, but that was good enough to beat an hour of "Scrubs" reruns on ABC.
"American Idol's" results show delivered a 14.4/22 at 9 p.m. CBS held onto second with "Criminal Minds," 8.8/14. NBC's "Life" drew a 3.4/5, which beat the 2.7/4 for a "Lost" repeat on ABC. The CW went with an encore of "90210."
With FOX done for the night, CBS' "CSI: NY" claimed the lead at 10 with an 8.6/14. "Law & Order" scored a 5.1/8 for NBC, and "Life on Mars" came in at 3.0/5 for ABC.

The big four nets were tightly bunched in the adults 18-49 demographic, but CBS came out on top with a 3.7 rating. ABC took second at 3.5, and NBC and FOX tied for third at 3.1. The CW earned a 1.3.
"Survivor: Tocantins" put CBS on top at 8 o'clock with a 7.4/12. "Bones," 5.9/10, finished second for FOX. "Ugly Betty" drew a 4.9/8 for ABC. A "My Name Is Earl" rerun and "Kath & Kim" came in fourth for NBC, while "Smallville" pulled down a 2.2/4 for The CW.

Re: What are you watching this winter?
Tempted not to watch Desperate Housewives tonight. Susan tries to impress a teacher at MJ's new school where Susan is employed at too. Can just picture that stupid scene play out. Bree continues to be embarrassed by Orson's stealing habits....
You know what, I'm cancelling the DVR.
Let me know if Edie dies though. Very disappointed with Desperate Housewives this season - I know you love it Brent and will accept anything they throw at you, but not me. Way too much TV to watch anyway as it it.....

I have to say, there is something missing from this season as well. I can't place it but it just doesn't feel like it used to. I hate Orson and the Scavo plots have been so stupid lately for the most part. The Dave mystery is moving painfully slowly and better have some kind of big twist to it. I'm not even close to giving it up, but I know a lot of people have so you're not alone. I believe Edie is going to die at the end of next week and then there's a 3-week hiatus before the final 6 episodes(including a 2-hour finale).
Brothers and Sisters on the other hand has been on fire since the movie event. Very close to Season 1 quality.

LOL! I just read the promo in my Sunday paper and as soon as I saw Teri Hatcher's pic featured, I said that's it - it will be just another stupid Susan storyline. One we all could write by now....
Told my husband I wasn't watching it and he gave me a look that pretty much said - well why have you been watching all along? LOL
Eh, I'll go back....just not tonight!
Now please someone call my house if this season turns out to be one bad dream. Ala Dallas.......I'll take it! he he

Re: What are you watching this winter?
WOW, tonight's episode was REALLY good. I loved Susan's storyline, she wasn't dumb or stupid and it ended well. The kiss was way overblown and not really a big deal. Orson still sucks but I loved Bree/Gaby/Juanita and then after that when Orson stole the Gypsy coffee mug from Bob and Lee. Oh and I loved seeing Lee playing poker with the ladies. I LOVE that Carlos and Lynette are now working together. It's SO much better than the pizzeria nonsense. Also loved Lynette saying she was 54.
Next week looks amazing, but come on ABC, it's not exactly a secret on which housewife dies.
B&S is great, love the guys on Spring Break.

TV Ratings: ABC dances away with Monday
'Dancing With the Stars' stays strong in second week
Fast National ratings for Monday, March 16, 2009
ABC waltzed to the top of the ratings Monday as "Dancing With the Stars" followed up its big premiere last week with another heavily watched night.
ABC led the night with an 11.4 rating/18 share, beating its closest competitor by more than 5 million viewers. CBS finished second in households at 7.3/11, but FOX, 7.1/11, snagged the No. 2 spot in total viewers. A night of reruns on NBC managed only a 2.4/4, and The CW trailed at 1.5/2.
The adults 18-49 race was a tight one, but ABC came out on top with a 4.6. FOX took second at 4.2, followed closely by CBS at 4.0. Both NBC (1.3) and The CW (1.1) were well off the pace.

TV Ratings: 'American Idol' drops but FOX still wins
Tuesday's show slides significantly from last week
March 18, 2009
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, March 17, 2009
St. Patrick's Day wasn't an especially lucky one for "American Idol" -- which fell off significantly compared to last week's show.
FOX still easily won the night with a 12.1/19 share, but its 21.5 million viewers were off by close to 4 million people compared to last week. CBS finished second at 9.1/15. ABC, 6.2/10, came in third, followed by NBC at 5.7/9. The CW drew a meager 0.9/1.
FOX's 8.0 rating among adults 18-49 dominated the night but was down about a point from last week. NBC took second in the demographic with a 3.3, followed by CBS at 2.9. ABC, 2.2, was fourth, and The CW trailed at 0.6.
"American Idol" delivered an 11.6/19 at 8 p.m. "NCIS" was a solid second for CBS at 9.7/16. A "Dancing With the Stars" recap show put ABC in third, beating the 4.6/7 for "The Biggest Loser: Couples" on NBC. "Reaper" scored a 1.2/2 for The CW.
FOX improved to 12.7/19 with "Idol" at 9 p.m. "The Mentalist" earned a 9.8/15 for CBS. ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" results scored an 8.1/12, while "The Biggest Loser" climbed to 5.4/8. The CW aired a "90210" rerun.
"Without a Trace," 7.7/13, moved CBS into the lead at 10 p.m. "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" drew a 7.1/12 for NBC, topping the 5.1/9 for "Primetime: What Would You Do?" on ABC.

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- President Obama is set to address the nation yet again - this time on Tuesday, March 24.
The hourlong speech, set to begin at 8:00/7:00c, comes on the heels of a news conference on Monday, February 9 and an address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, February 24.
NBC has already signed on to carry the event, which will push "The Biggest Loser" that night to 9:00/8:00c, pre-empting "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit."
ABC, CBS and FOX are expected to announce their plans over the next couple of days, which will likely disrupt such high-rated fare as "American Idol" and "NCIS."

Networks are ticked off about the speech on Tuesday. . . one to two million dollars of lost ad revenue. .
Here's how the Big Four will juggle the speech:
Here's how the Big Four will juggle the speech:
>> Fox is arguably the most impacted network and took the longest to agree to airing the speech. The network will move Tuesday's two-hour performance episode of "Idol" to Wednesday, and the Wednesday episode to Thursday at 8 p.m. That preempts "Lie to Me" and "Bones" and puts mega-rated "Idol" against the mega-rated NCAA finals (which neither Fox nor CBS are all that thrilled about).
>> NBC will move Tuesday's two-hour "Biggest Loser" to 9 p.m., preempting "Law & Order: SVU."
>> CBS likewise is dumping its 10 p.m. procedural ("Without a Trace") and moving its two earlier dramas, "NCIS" and "The Mentalist," forward an hour.
-- ABC was planning back-to-back episodes of "According to Jim," which shouldn't be a problem to preempt.

I wish they'd say no and refuse to carry it. FOX especially. News coverage will get about 5 million, Idol gets 20 million.
Not to mention the thing will be on cable anyway and streaming online. If people want to see it they can.
and moreover this is the THIRD speech in 6 weeks and the 2nd time Tuesday has been messed up in a month. It's ridiculous. Bush and Clinton never had this many speeches. I hate it.

TV Ratings: 'Grey's Anatomy' beats hoops Thursday
NCAA tournament ratings up a bit over last year
March 20, 2009
Fast National ratings for Thursday, March 19, 2009
Ratings for the opening night of the NCAA basketball tournament improved some over last year's tipoff, but ABC grabbed the night's biggest audience.
ABC averaged a 7.3 rating/12 share in primetime to snare the top spot. CBS came in second with a 5.9/10, which will change some because of the live sports broadcast. FOX, 5.4/9, finished third, beating out the 4.8/8 for NBC. The CW earned a 2.0/3.
CBS tied ABC for the lead among adults 18-49 at 3.5. FOX, 3.1, and NBC, 3.0, were not far behind. The CW trailed with a 1.3.
"Bones" put FOX on top at 8 p.m. with a 6.3/11. CBS' NCAA tourney coverage finished a close second at 6.1/10 (and led among adults 18-49). "Ugly Betty" drew a 5.2/9 for ABC. "My Name Is Earl" and an "Office" rerun put NBC in fourth, while "Smallville" scored a 2.1/3 for The CW.
ABC took over at 9 with "Grey's Anatomy," the night's most-watched show at 9.7/15. CBS improved to 6.4/10 with March Madness. FOX's "Hell's Kitchen," 4.6/7, finished in a virtual tie for third with NBC's "The Office," 4.9/8, and "30 Rock," 4.3/7. "Supernatural" held steady for The CW.
"Private Practice," 7.0/12, kept ABC on top at 10 p.m. "ER" drew a 6.2/10 for NBC, while CBS' college basketball dipped some to 5.2/9.

President Obama's appearance on "The Tonight Show" Thursday gave the show some of its biggest ratings in years.
The president's interview with Leno drew an 11.2 rating/26 share in the overnight ratings, a preliminary sample of 56 major markets. That's the biggest "Tonight Show" rating since it drew an identical number on Jan. 24, 2005, for a tribute to Johnny Carson, who had died the previous day. The last time it drew a bigger audience was in 1998 on the night of the "Seinfeld" finale.

Okay Brent - you'd better sit down......promos for the new Desperate Housewives episode for tonight look really good so I'm going to watch. Don't faint now.......
Do you think Edie dies? They keep saying she will and we all know that NS is leaving the show.
But something tells me this info has been a little too obvious. DH is known for plot twists. I wonder if it will be Katherine that dies?

This episode is going to be awesome.
Edie is definitely dead IMO. It's been reported in the media, it's not even a spoiler, Neal McDonough who plays Dave even confirmed it and I saw the way it happens in the script. Katherine I'm pretty sure survives(have no evidence she dies or anyone else), though I think we'll be led to believe she's dying during the camping trip tonight(I've seen a few short sneak peeks).
What was filming Edie’s end like?
You’ll see in the episode what I do to poor Nic. It is truly horrible, brutal, but it had to be done. It’s a simple scene, but in its execution it was very difficult. It took forever to do because it was just so hard and very emotional for Dave. You truly see both sides, you see his split personality in this one moment.
