alaska_avo Unrest at Redoubt Volcano continues. Seismic activity remains elevated and is well above background levels. A vapor plume is intermittently visible in the AVO web camera. It appears to rise no higher than the volcano's summit

A sustained burst of volcanic tremor has just occurred, but this did not result in any eruptive activity and no ash emission has occurred.

AVO is monitoring and evaluating the situation closely.

Redoubt is still at aviation color code ORANGE and volcano alert level WATCH

Earthquake activity is very much up, but camera is completely blocked so it seems that ground motions is most of what we have to go on away from the volcano.

"40 to 50 events per hour" and "increased dramatically" is some of the terminology being used at the observatory.

Events now large enough to be recorded outside the Redoubt network of sensors.

AVO has made 6 updates within the last 10 hours.

Get ready Anchorage and all the Kenai peninsula.

Correction: NCT abd DFR are part of the permanent group of 6 sensors for Redoubt. They are both on the far north flank.

alaska_avo Seismicity rates have increased dramatically over the last 48 hours. Currently, the earthquake rate is about 40 to 50 events per hour. Many of these events are large enough to be recorded at the more distal stations of the Redoubt network, including NCT and DFR.At present, much of the volcano is in view in the hut web camera and small steam/gas plume is visible

Alert level raised for Alaska volcano

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Increased earthquake activity has prompted scientists to raise the alert level for Alaska's Mount Redoubt volcano.

Geologists at the Alaska Volcano Observatory said Sunday that seismic activity had increased over the past two days. On Sunday morning, 40 to 50 earthquakes were being recorded every hour.
Scientists said conditions may evolve rapidly and culminated in an eruption within days to weeks at the volcano roughly 100 miles southwest of Anchorage.

A steam plume rising about 1,000 feet above the mountain peak was observed Saturday.

The observatory had warned in late January that an eruption could occur at any time.
