There has been some discussion on Jack's attitude off and now back on the island. Here is a quote by Matthew Fox about Jack: (article is Doc Jensen's preview on tonite's episode "What Happened, Happened

Fox describes Jack's journey on Lost like this: ''We set him up to be a hero in the eyes of people on the island — they needed that — but he really wasn't that, or he felt like he couldn't be that. And so we broke him down to where he was desperately trying to hold onto the idea that he can control his reality, that logic and reason and science are the real dictators of the world, not fate and magic. He then felt like his only way out was to take his own life. Failing that, he then moved to a place where he was finally forced to consider that he was probably wrong, that probably Locke was right, and probably the only way he can find any redemption or any salvation in this universe is to go back to the very place that he tried to leave and get back to whatever fated destiny that place has for him. Playing that has been a pretty extraordinary opportunity. A f---ing challenge the whole way through, but it's been really cool experience.''

I asked Fox to describe the state of Jack as we currently find him at this point of the season, and his answer speaks to the quiet, patient, humbled hero that has returned to the Island. ''Coming back to the Island, he gains strength just by being in its proximity,'' he explained. ''I've always believed part of what was destroying him was his actual lack of physical proximity to the Island. He is fated to do something on the Island, but in fighting to get away from that, the Island was destroying him from afar. Now, he's wide-eyed and alert and watching for his destiny. He doesn't have any idea how he's going to know it, or when he's going to know it. But when the moment comes, he will realize he's in the path of his own destiny. And when he's clicked into it, he can start taking action without over-dictating, without trying to control his reality, to just do what it is he's meant to do.''

Awesome episode... again.

The scene when Kate told Aaron bye... I lost it. I started crying. :(

I lost it too, I cried so hard. Could not stop. I think I cried for two reasons - the first being I'm still upset that Claire did not get to raise her son. Kate did. Which I was grateful for (if Claire is indeed dead). The second reason I cried is because I believe Kate is a very good person who's made poor choices in life. She was a good mother to Aaron.

Dare we hope that Claire is still alive?

The conversation between Hurley and Miles - hilarious! Especially when Miles just tells Hurley to shoot him! LOL

Here's TV Guide's summary.....it's always a great read. I have to laugh at so many ways this reviewer describes scenes and dialogue. As if he's sitting beside me on my couch as I watch an episode each week.

Two TV Guide entries this morning:

TV Guide's Hot List (shows they highlight for that coming night, Lost coming in #1, of course!)

Lost 9 pm/ET ABC New
It certainly seems as though Kate and Sawyer made a deal with the devil last week when they left the gravely wounded young Ben to the tender mercies of Richard Alpert, and — as it happens — "judgment day" is here tonight.

Every week, senior editors Matt Webb Mitovich, Mickey O'Connor and Tim Molloy satisfy your need for TV scoop. Please send all questions to mega_scoop@tvguide.com.

I like Sawyer and I love Juliet, but I really need this Sawyer/Juliet thing to be over soon on Lost. — Claudia
MATT: I on the other hand have taken a shine to "Suliet," so it is with some glee that I tell you that there will be a bit more idyllic "playing of the house" — as well as a little smooching! — before the action-packed ramp-up to the May 13 season finale. It kind of makes you wonder to whom Kate might turn since Jack, I am hearing, is going to only become more unlikable.

And a fan's rant (of which I do not agree with!)
Tim's Mini Rant: Time travel has made Lost frustrating. It feels like a completely different show now, disconnected from what it used to be. Yes, "The Constant" is one of the best episodes of anything I've ever seen. But the time jumps feel like an unearned trip to crazytown, without a whiff of foreshadowing — as if all the characters started turning into vampires.

Today's News: Our Take
Lost: Who's Gonna Die?
Apr 7, 2009 12:08 PM ET by Mickey O'Connor 29 Comments

Wednesday's episode of Lost (9 pm/ET, ABC) is titled "Dead Is Dead." It purports to tell the story of Ben's atonement for his many sins, but it brings to mind that pesky rumor we keep hearing: Two main characters will die before the end of the season. And not Frogurt-caliber characters — people you actually care about. Putting aside for a second the fact that dying on Lost doesn't exactly mean a trip to the unemployment office, let's examine a few likely suspects, and then tell us who you think is going to take that long island dirt nap.

BEN
FOR HIM Last we saw him, little Ben was on death's door after getting plugged by Sayid. Sure, Richard Alpert said he could save him, but can he really? Plus, see above — the episode is called "Dead Is Dead" for a reason.
AGAINST HIM In revealing the backstory of Ben's fractured childhood — and his fate at the hands of the Hostiles — the character has become infinitely more sympathetic. In addition, Lost appears to be headed toward a showdown between Ben and Widmore, and it's still too early for that confrontation to take place.
NARRATIVE PUNCH Lost without Ben would certainly be duller. Good guy or bad, he has double-crossed nearly everyone in the cast.

CLAIRE
FOR HER There is a well-developed conspiracy theory that claims that Claire actually died in that explosion in her house in New Otherton. Supporters point to her last communication with Miles (aka Señor Ghostbuster), her abandonment of Aaron and her cozying up to Christian, her dead dad, inside Jacob's cabin.
AGAINST HER There is no indication that Emilie de Ravin has been on set at all this season. Plus: Emilie de Ravin told us already that Claire will return as a regular cast member for the final season.
NARRATIVE PUNCH There are still a few unanswered questions in Claire's backstory, but most revolve around the significance of Aaron. In short, we might like her more as a ghost.

DESMOND
FOR HIM Desmond would do anything to protect Penny and their son, Charlie — including die to save them.
AGAINST HIM Daniel Faraday has hinted at Desmond's importance in the show's evolving time-travel conceit, in that the rules don't appear to apply to him. Now that the gang is stuck in 1977, he may be their only hope of rescue.
NARRATIVE PUNCH Desmond is a popular character, especially with the lay-deez. (Holla!) They would riot if he was killed.

HURLEY
FOR HIM Truthfully, there is no indication that it would be him.
AGAINST HIM Hurley is the Oceanic 6's truth-teller; he keeps everyone honest. Hurley seems to be the most accessible character through which to tell the story of "the numbers," an annoying plot point that has yet to be adequately explained.
NARRATIVE PUNCH Dude, it would totally suck.

JULIET
FOR HER The blogosphere erupted when it was revealed that Elizabeth Mitchell had been cast in the remake of the V miniseries. Did that mean she was leaving Lost?
AGAINST HER Though the rumors persist, ABC says the role is just a guest-starring gig; plus, we're hearing Juliet appears in Season 6.
NARRATIVE PUNCH Long-suffering Juliet seems to have finally found peace with Sawyer among the Dharma Initiative. Killing her now would be especially harsh — and dramatically potent.

KATE
FOR HER There were rumblings earlier in the season that Evangeline Lilly was available to audition for pilot season, which sent Lost fans into a tizzy that Kate might be exiting.
AGAINST HER The rumor was quickly silenced. ("Not even remotely true," a source told TVGuide.com.)
NARRATIVE PUNCH Needless to say, losing Kate before the end of the series would be truly shocking.

PENNY
FOR HER After Widmore killed Ben's "daughter," Alex, Ben pledged revenge. Last we saw Ben, he had an errand to run at what appeared to be a marina. He then boarded Ajira Flight 316 bloodied and bruised.
AGAINST HER Penny and Desmond's globetrotting (indeed, time-trotting) romance has become the heart of the show. It would be downright cruel to break up this happily reunited couple after their long, torturous separation.
NARRATIVE PUNCH Sucker. To the kidneys. And the heart. Sniff.

SAWYER
FOR HIM As Jim LaFleur, Sawyer holds a prominent position within the Dharma Initiative. But as James Ford, survivor of Oceanic 815, he has other goals. As his two interests start to diverge, it's possible that Sawyer's double-agent routine will be discovered.
AGAINST HIM The Kate-Jack-Juliet-Sawyer love rectangle is an endless source of discussion for the fans. They'd never remove one of the variables, would they?
NARRATIVE PUNCH Killing Sawyer just as he redeemed himself would be bittersweet — and characteristic of Lost.

SAYID
FOR HIM After shooting little Ben, Sayid is Dharma Public Enemy No. 1.
AGAINST HIM His recent declaration — "You were right; I am a killer" — seems to indicate the beginning of a redemption story arc.
NARRATIVE PUNCH Hard to say. We love Naveen Andrews, but how much more do we need to know about Sayid?

SUN
FOR HER She's hanging out with Christian lately, and he tends to show up, Grim Reaper-like, just before people meet their maker (see: Locke, Michael, Claire?).
AGAINST HER Similar to Des and Penny, Sun and Jin's flawed romance sneaked up on us. Sun has already believed Jin dead; isn't that enough?
NARRATIVE PUNCH Killing her off before (or even after) she finds Jin would make for some terrific drama.

Here's Doc Jensen's take on tonight's episode. The article is 5 pages long, all over the place, confusing as Lost is but I love it anyway.....gets you thinking about all sorts of stuff.

I read Doc earlier... he's always confusing, but I love his articles! Don't miss tomorrow's recap either.

If you didn't watch "Lost Untangled" which he stuck in his article, you ought to. I look forward to those each week almost as much as I look forward to LOST! They crack me up.

Here they are on abc.com/lost where you can watch other Lost Untangled epidodes (they're usually only about 5 minutes long).

Yay indeed! Each punch Des threw, I did too. Similar to when Jack was beating up on Ben in the Season 3 finale.....or leading up to it (the communal trek to the tower, to call the freighter people.....).

We Lost fans love it when Ben gets beaten up! Take that you little, swarmy man.....LOL

Okay, here's the Thursday morning TV Guide recap......I LOVE these. And like Kelly suggested, my next Lost stop this morning is over to Doc's assessment......

Enjoy!!!!

Dead is dead.....LOL Hey, other than Ceasar, did anyone else die? Can't remember.........actual time, not flashback time.....

Lost Episode Recap: "Dead Is Dead"
Apr 8, 2009 07:56 PM ET by Mickey O'Connor 36 Comments

Namaste, y'all! Wednesday's episode of Lost tells the story of Ben's atonement for his many sins, but one in particular: causing the death of his "daughter," Alex. We learn how Alex parted company with her mother, Danielle Rousseau, and came to live with Ben, what caused the bad blood between Ben and Widmore and what exactly the good-ol' smoke monster considers a fair punishment for Ben's ethically dubious nature — and how that punishment affects the newly resurrected John Locke. As usual, I've shuffled the narrative for easier deciphering.

In Ye Olde Hostiletown, circa 1977

A dashing fellow with flowing locks arrives on horseback, and he has a bone to pick with Richard Alpert, and it's not about his choice of eyeliner, but the fact that the Hostiles are currently convalescing young Benjamin Linus, a member of the Dharma Initiative. Alpert silences his protests with a "Jacob wanted it done," which always seems to work. Lord Silkylocks introduces himself to the boy — who doesn't want to go back to live with his dad — as Charles Widmore. Thump!

Some years later — it's hard to judge the year by the possum Michael Emerson is sporting on his noggin — we see Ben and a bloodthirsty young Ethan Rom (hey, why is his last name Rom and not Goodspeed? And why is he running Hostile errands with Ben? Is this post-Purge?) spying on poor, crazy Danielle Rousseau. Ben confronts her, and is startled to learn that she has a baby. He takes the baby without blinking an eye and warns her to run the other way every time she hears whispers. No wonder Danielle is more unhinged than Desmond's hatch door.

Ben brings Alex back to Hostiletown, where Widmore (Alan Dale with similarly giggle-inducing fake hair) is upset because Ben didn't kill Danielle and "it" (aka Alex). "It's not an it; this is a child," Ben says, insisting that Jacob doesn't want her dead.

Flash-forward a bit and Ben (whose coif now resembles an oily chinchilla pelt) is pushing a 9-ish-year-old Alex on a swing. He heads over to the dock to see Widmore off on his last journey off the island via submarine. Ben exposits that Widmore brought his banishment on himself, as he left the island regularly and had a daughter with an outsider, thus breaking the rules. "I'll sacrifice anything for this island," foreshadows Ben. When Widmore reminds him that he wouldn't kill Alex for the island, Ben snips, "You're the one who wanted her dead, not the island." "If the island wants her dead, she'll be dead," Widmore snips right back. "You cannot fight the inevitable." This whole conversation has much more resonance by the episode's conclusion, but for now it's just a pissing contest, with no winners.

In 2007, at the marina

Ben calls Widmore and tells him he's going to kill Penny. In short order, he shoots Desmond and puts Penny in his gun's sights. In a nice echo of his previous baby-stealing scene, Ben's resolve is shaken by the revelation that Penny and Desmond have a baby too. But instead of stealing Charlie (sniff), Desmond comes out of nowhere and tackles Ben, beats the crap out of him and throws him into the murky, fuel-stained ocean. America exhales, comforted by the knowledge that DesPen has lived to charm us another day.

In 2007, on the island

When Locke greets Ben as he regains consciousness after the crash of Ajira 315, Ben appears relieved, excited even. He claims to have known that Locke would be resurrected. Uh-huh… He also tells Locke that he returned to the island to be judged by "the monster" (aka Smokey) for having broken the island's rules by leaving.

A creepy, smiley Ben greets Ilana on the beach, offering to help her and the other survivors with their post-crash labor. "Have a great day," he chirps. Shudder. He corners Caesar and plants the idea that Locke is crazy and that he might have already been on the island since nobody remembers him from the plane. This is Ben at his best; he is a gifted puppetmaster… for now anyway.

Locke finds Ben sorting through his old office, where we see him tenderly examine a photograph of him and Alex. Locke wants to talk about "the elephant in the room" — namely, that time that Ben killed him. Ben does a little soft-shoe, humming a familiar ditty about getting the others back to the island and his death bringing them all together. It's a song we've heard before, and Ben knows it. "Well, I just didn't have time to talk you back into hanging yourself," he sums up.

Born-Again Locke is a changed man, and his authoritativeness is pretty damn refreshing, no? He's like a white Shaft. "Who's the baldy man of whom all the Hostiles are a fan? Locke!" (Shut yo' mouth, Mickey…) He wants an apology from Ben, and he also wants a front-row seat for when Ben is judged by Smokey. But to do that, they have to convince the prickly Caesar that they need to take a boat over to Funhouse Island. Needless to say, he's not nuts about the idea, but Ben shoots him. (Caesar is all: "Et tu, Linus?") So, that solves that. I was surprised to see Caesar kick it so soon (if he is indeed dead); I was intrigued by what that character had in store for us. "Consider that my apology," Ben says flatly.

Ben and Locke reach the main island. "Home, sweet home," says Ben, perhaps a bit too wistfully for his character. Ben reports that Sun and Lapidus preceded them on this journey. Locke teases Ben about not having any friends like it's recess and Ben is all: Friends can be more dangerous than enemies. Overall, they're a humorous pairing, as they dodge and parry for dominance like the Olympic fencing team.

They shuffle off to New Otherton, since Ben needs to go to his old house to summon Smokey. Along the way, Locke lets Ben know that he knows why Ben wants to be judged: for his role in Alex's murder. Ben is clearly irritated by Locke's newfound omniscience. Arriving at Casa de Linus, they discover that someone, a silhouetted woman, is in Alex's old room. Obviously, it's Sun and Lapidus. They show Ben the picture of the Oceanic 6 in the 1977 Dharma photo, and tell them that a man named Christian told them if Sun ever wanted to see Jin again, she was to wait for John Locke.

It's then that Born-Again Locke makes his entrance, without much fanfare, for now anyway.

Lapidus, who isn't quite as well-versed in the island's mysterious ways, speaks for the audience and points out how cuckoo it would be to follow Ben and Locke, and suggests that Sun return to the crash site with him. "If you leave with him, you'll never see your husband again," Locke says, apropos of nothing. (How does he know?) Lapidus is leaving, with or without Sun. Sun opts to stay.

So Sun joins them on Operation Smokehouse. "Better get to it then!" Locke chirps. Into the walk-in closet of doom he goes, where he lights a lamp and crawls through a passageway. In a muddy pool of water, Ben turns a handle and it is drained. "I'll be outside," he says to nobody in particular.

Ben re-emerges, but John has wandered off. Sun thinks that Jack must have lied about Locke being dead, but Ben assures her that he was. "Trust me; I'm sure," he says. He admits to her that he had no idea if he would be resurrected. "I've seen [the island] heal the sick, but never once has it done this. Dead is dead; you don't get to come back from that," he says with significant weight. He says that John being alive scares the hell out of him.

They hear a noise, and he tells Sun to go inside. "What's about to come out of that jungle is something I can't control," he warns. But — hardy-har-har — it's Locke. Again, this line's real potency comes later.

Ben and Locke quibble about how long Smokey is going to take to wreak havoc on their lives. Ben claims he only knows how to summon Smokey; he doesn't know where it lives. "I do," says Locke, which really burns Ben's biscuits. So off they go. Locke is vague on how he knows where Smokey lives, and this annoys Ben, which Locke clearly relishes. "You don't like having to ask questions you don't know the answers to, blindly following someone in the hopes that they'll lead you to whatever it is you're looking for," John orates. Ben agrees. "Now you know what it was like to be me," John says, underscoring his post-death transformation.

Locke brings them to the temple, but they're not going inside; they're going under it. Before Ben descends the rabbit hole though, he tells Sun: "If you ever get off this island, find Desmond Hume and tell him I said I was sorry." He doesn't specify why, and in the original order of the episode, we haven't seen how things turn out at the marina, so this line was especially chilling.

Lapidus returns to the other survivors of 315, and is greeted with this question from Ilana: "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" Since Lapidus has no earthly idea what she's talking about, Ilana, ever the bounty hunter, knocks him out. "Get everyone else, and tie him up – he's coming with us," she instructs, implying that 315 might have been staffed with undercover operatives of a yet-to-be-determined mission, on the orders of a yet-to-be-revealed leader. Widmore? One of the Oceanic 6? Who?

Meanwhile, underground, Ben tells Locke that he's right; he's being judged for killing Alex by making the wrong choice. "I appreciate you showing me the way, but I think I can take it from here," Ben says, attempting to assert some semblance of autonomy. As if on cue, the floor falls out from underneath him, Indiana Jones-style, depositing him into an ominous, further subterranean compartment. The ruin-like walls are lined with hieroglyphics, including one that appears to show Smokey consulting a jackal-headed man not unlike the silhouette of the giant statue Sawyer and Co. saw a few weeks back.

Ben approaches what looks like an altar. His torch goes out, and Smokey starts pouring into the room from a perforated tile in the floor. It surrounds him, and we hear that familiar clicking noise. All around him, Ben sees scenes from his life with Alex, ending with her shocking death. The smoke recedes; his torch reignites, and for a second, I'm all like: WTF? That's it?!

"Hi, Daddy," Alex says, as she emerges from the shadows with a knowing smile. Zoinks! She appears to be a little off, in that way that manifestations of the dead often do. A clearly awed Ben says, "It was all my fault." "I know," Alex the Not-So-Friendly Ghost replies, slamming him up against a column. She barks that she knows that he's planning to kill John again. And she wants him to know that he is not to do that, lest he incur the wrath of Smokey. But there's more! Alex instructs Ben to obey everything John Locke says. Ben agrees to this incredible, karmic kick in the Hacky Sacks, slumps over and starts to cry. And then she's gone.

Ben emerges from his Smokey-induced haze and rejoins John. "What happened?" Locke asks. "It let me live," he reports. Thump? Although Smokey's little display was quite impressive, and would surely scare the bejesus out of most mere mortals, a question is nonetheless raised: Since we're talking about Ben here, I wonder: Will he heed Alex's warning? After all, the man already thinks he's untouchable. It would be very much in character for Ben to think he knows better. Or does this development mark an abrupt, permanent shift in Ben's journey – and in the power dynamic between him and Locke?

So what did you think of "Dead Is Dead"? Speaking of, is dead dead for Caesar? What do you think Ilana's mission is? How will Sun, Ben and Locke reunite with the groovy chicks and dudes of the Dharma Initiative? Will Ben obey Alex/Smokey? Are Penny and Desmond as unharmed as they appeared to be? And who's gonna die by season's end?

NEXT WEEK!

Hurley discovers that Miles can talk to dead people! Everyone on the island has a purpose! Is Miles on some kind of a secret mission? Why is Miles sharing secret whispery time with Dr. Chang? Radzinsky shoots at Miles!

According to the ghost of daughters past Ben would do better to ally himself with John Locke.
Ben has enough injuries already, besides if he keeps running around stealing other peoples shotguns there won't be anyone left to find and we will have to rename the series.

Thank god Desmond bought canned goods at the grocery store..

LOL! Yeah really. Ben should listen to Locke and at least one of our Losties is behaving normally - ie, eating! And cleaning (Penny).

Personally speaking, I enjoy it when one of these characters seems to speak for fans/viewers. Frank has taken up this torch recently, he does mean well and seems to have a Jack-like essence to him when he implores Sun to listen to him (Frank) and not wacky Ben or even Locke. LOL

But as time has gone on, I do wish one of them would just say - don't you all wish we could have one good night's sleep? Or one really nice, normal meal? LOL

Well, I guess Juliet, Sawyer, Jin, Miles had been enjoying a "normal" (ha!) 3 year period. Kate as well. Not Jack though......not 3 full years of normalcy......

But at some point I'd shout out for everyone to hear - I want the madness to stop! LOL (Had I uh, been an original passenger on Oceanic 815......he he).

Anybody watch tonight's episode yet?

Just wondering........it was a good episode, more info revealed. Personally I enjoy it when the writers give us a character you initially assumed was bad and up to no good. Then you see glimpses of a real person inside and why they are this way. Tonight we got to know Miles better. When he teared up I almost did too!

LOL @ Hurley and all the Star Wars talk.....

And finally.....

FARADAY!!!

I was too busy yesterday to read Doc, so hopefully I'll get a chance later to read yesterday's and today's articles.

I think we're going to find out that Miles' dad didn't really abandon him as a baby. You could see how much he loved him and clearly, he and his Mom get off the island at some point. Maybe his mom has to leave, maybe she wants to leave... either way, she likely tells Miles how horrible his dad was so that he doesn't try to find him and return to the island.

Who do y'all think was in the van that snatched Miles?

Here's Doc's take....it's all over the place. That must be his style!!! Let me guess, Doc has ADHD? LOL!!! Note - it's 6 pages long......

Here's the TV Guide summary (easier to follow but an excellent read, as always....):

Oh Kel, hate to admit this but promos gave it away for me, I knew a body bag with a body inside it would be in the van. Sometimes I hate commercials! Can you imagine someone coming up to you in 1977, after seeing Star Wars/A New Hope and telling you that Darth Vader is Luke's father?!!! You would be absolutely stunned and in my case, livid. LOL I was pretty angry with George Lucas for doing that.......I didn't believe it until I saw it for myself in Empire.....I had heard friends say that Vader was Luke's father, before I ever bought my ticket for Empire......but it was comical to see Hurley just innocently thinking he'd write the script for Lucas.....when truth be told, the script was written long before 1977! All 3 original SW saga movies were written before the first one ever aired......but they left that little tidbit out. Miles could have whipped out that bad boy and burst Hurley's bubble. Nice that he didn't actually.
